Some from a local cruise club was kind enough to come over and help troubleshoot. We hooked up his heavy duty jump pack directly to the starter and it fired up immediately. Looks like I’ll need new battery cables and a better ground.
Battery is a brand new Odyssey extreme battery with 950 CCA. It’s a group 65 because none of the group 31s will fit in the stock tray. Stoked that it runs!

Assessing Rubithon carnage and noticed that somehow, I've re-arranged the leafspring clamps on a front spring.
Do I even need these? (I'm hoping not too much) Should I replace them or ignore them?
I've no idea how this happened.

You sound like a Millwright. They are very acquainted with the BFH.
Odessey makes great full lead batteries. I have run one in my boat for over 5 years.
I stuck a fitted piece of 1/2" plywood in the bottom of the battery tray, that way I could use a way larger battery and not risk cracking the bottom of the battery on the perimeter rim of the battery box. New big battery held in place with straps and bungie cords. Been there for years. I don't really hard core off road anymore, If I did I make a steel angle iron frame for the battery to sit in.

I am checking on them now. I was going to go with Optima but the size that fits the tray does not have the recommended CCAs and sometimes it gets pretty cold in Wyoming.
I had a new group 31 battery I really wanted to use in the 40.
I bent down the rear edge of the tray flush and it nestled in quite nicely. The battery clamp works properly, too.

Check out the Optima Marine battery. It fits the stock tray and has more CCAs. I have used one for my 12HT since 2017.
The battery I ended up with has the right body dimensions to fit in the tray, but the bottom angle outwards for the clamp style trays. Good idea on the scrap material beneath it.
I know what you're saying... I stood behind her just to help her up if she needed it. She made it.. but not like her or I did back when we were younger...Perfect @Toyjoy. Tried to take my wife for a ride to dinner a few months back but she couldn’t get in like she did back in ‘74. I grip the steering wheel and pull my self across the seat, she can’t do that on the passenger side... Took the Chevy instead

The Cummins installation guide recommends 850 CCAs and everything in that rating or higher is larger then the tray. I can modify the tray for the length. The marine battery looks like a good choice with a winch and lights that connect direct to the battery.
This is the battery I ended up with Odyssey. It has 950 CCAs and the length fits in the stock tray. I wonder if the angled edge on the long sides of the battery could be shaved down to make it a better fit.

I was looking at that one and I wonder what the dimensions are on the bottom because I do see that it tapers down. So I am assuming that dimensions shown are the larger length and width at the upper section. I did ask Odyssey for a recommendation but have not heard back from them.
I moved the tray tight to the fire wall where the heater fan motor was and rotated it 90 degrees and clear my turbo.
Would you post a photo of the battery mounted in the tray?

I just ordered the ODYSSEY Extreme BatteryODS-AUX14 to power the APEX winch mounted on the car trailer and a battery box to store it in from Amazon. I can power the winch and take it to my diesel tank with the 12V pump that I use to take to town to fill and then transfer to the rolling tank with the hand crank that the Wife uses if she has to fill the tractor.

@POPO AGIE You guys married some really good women… your wife fills the tractor, @greenbeast wife got a trailered sprayer for her birthday a few yrs ago. This is great… I married a Vermont dairy farm girl who can used to help me build stuff here in the woods and then discovered the mall and Amazon.

Got a few things in the mail today… since the 31” tires made a few mph error on the Speedo, the 3.70 differentials really threw a curve ball and it reads about 20% slower than the actual speed displayed on the gps . This was a very pleasant conversation I had with Greg at Commercial Speedometer only a few days ago. He told me he would build it tomorrow and ship it out the same day.. and he did.
As luck has it, I’m not getting any speeding ticket for over 65…it’s that 35 and 40 mph zones where the problem lies. My speedometer app on the phone is showing 48 mph at 40 and if I’m not watching the display and just enjoying the ride.. that’s where it happens
There was a brief discussion about the dashboard plugs last week with @FloridaLife so these also came in. Always nice to have it when you need it

Sure thing.
Length is an easy fit. The feet on the long sides are exactly the same width as the raised edges of the tray. I’ll probably throw some wood under it to keep it steady.
