@OGBeno has anyone heard whether the LC museum is going to digitize anything? I might reach out to them if not.

It's on our radar. Ideally we'd love to have a company or group sponsor (fund) the effort to digitize and host our growing collection. We've not found an opportunity yet but it's definitely on our wishlist.

Can you give me a sense of the volume of printed resources the museum has to digitize? There are a few services I've come across that I can inquire about scanning costs. When I scanned my catalogs for theoldcruiser.com I carefully sliced them apart, scanned page-by-page, and then tweaked the coloring. After that, did a pass of OCR to make them searchable. Definitely not sustainable for a ton of material, and since you'd have to remove the spine to do it that way, some of the other more non-destructive methods (photography, namely) are probably the better option.

I'd be more than willing to donate my photography services to help this cause.

Let me fleshout some of the ideas we (the LCHM BOD) have had for the literature. It's not so much the actual cost to photo/scan the many items (which is a big lift), but rather the infrastructure and cost of hosting as a long-term solution that benefits the community (access to all that info) and museum (sponsorship opportunity).

I may be interested in assisting with the technical infrastructure and hosting.

Excellent!

I'm going to circle our board and come up with some bullet points of what we envision. This subject comes up in our meetings, it's time we find a way to move forward, particularly if we can find a sponsor to cover the actual costs and contribute to the museum. An example would be the "Toyo Tire LCHM Digital Library" or similar.

Some of you may have seen some recent LCHM fundraising efforts on Bring A Trailer. We hosted a generational drive for the auction winner. They were able to drive a 40, 55, 60, 80, 100, 200 around some epic trails in Moab and stay at a killer ranch complete with amazing food. It was a really neat event. 😎

We just had an auction close today. The winner gets a VIP CruiseFest experience complete with a day on some private (Snowbird) mountain trails riding with Shauno feom 4WD 24/7. I'm really excited for that one too!

Let me know if and how I can help.
I’ve done a lot of historical copy work for prints and art work so I understand the assignment.
