It is about 3 hours from me but I have a friend who will take a look at it for me (We both don't know what to look for!) 1979 is my dream year, I am on the fence about getting a diesel but I don't see many for sale around my parts, saving me the US dollar and import costs. Thanks for any input.
1978 Central American Import to East Coast USA
Hello everyone. I am planning on importing and selling my 1978 BJ diesel back to the US. It was fully restored and built in Costa Rica, and I have had a blast driving it all around the country. I am putting this thread out as a “feeler”.. on if it is worth sending back to the US to sell or if I should keep it here as an extra car as a travel back and forth from New Jersey a few times a year. As you will see from the pictures, the truck was tastefully modified. I am still in contact with the local Tico, a fellow car enthusiast/restorer, and will update the ad with exact specs of the build soon, but I know a lot of the drivetrain, diffs, etc were beefed up, as well as the suspension obviously.. but I will get specifics. Motor was...
***Posting for a friend*** Per the posting: "Originally a Colorado truck. Now has 350 Chevrolet motor, turbo 350 transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, new aluminum body, fiberglass fenders, new windshield frame, and original top and doors. Tires are BFG MTs 33 x 10.50 x 15. Truck has ZERO rust and very little use since rebuilt. Serious inquiries only. These trucks are very collectible!" Great vehicle with a NO BS Seller!
Virginia Beach, VA / 1973 FJ40
I am currently in the Navy stationed in Virginia Beach, VA. I just found out I am being stationed OCONUS (Rota, Spain) for 3 years- sounds amazing right? Except I can't bring my beloved FJ40. The way I see it -I have two options: Sell or Long-term storage somewhere. In amazing condition! Fresh paint job. Completely restored with a brand new gas tank, clutch, and brakes. Only original Toyota parts used in restoration with original engine. Runs great! The previous owners and I all thought FJ are better kept original. Only upgrades are power steering and 4speed.
I am abandoning this project because, #1 not capable of the welding necessary, #2 not enough time and someone wants this out of the garage quick Per previous owner: new clutch plate, clutch master cylinder, brake master cylinder, wheel brake cylinders in good shape, new front shocks, new wheel bearings and seals, new fuel sender, gas tank cleaned, restored carb, rebuilt starter, rebuilt alternator, converted to HEI distributor/ignition, cleaned & pressure tested radiator, flushed/new fluid transmission, transfer case & diff. It starts. Needs either a carb adjustment or new carb because it idles too low. I added new Interstate battery, cables, washer reservoir, It has been completely sand blasted so it is evident what needs to be...

West Central Florida 1978 FJ40
1978 FJ40. Posting up here before it gets cleaned, detailed, re photographed and put up for sale elsewhere. 2F, 4spd, A/C, disc brakes (4 wheel), Old Man Emu 2.5” springs and suspension, Pakistani soft top with matching doors, Tuffy console, nice stereo. 84K original miles, original paint, original upholstery, no rips or tears. Less than 1500 miles on BFG Mud Terrains. There are a couple of minor rust spots, some minor chips and scratches. No dents. Never has had any body repairs, undercoating, detailing or touch up done. Frame and underneath is rust free and solid. Aside from some aftermarket additions, it is unmolested and unrestored. This vehicle is turn key. Runs and drives well. Never been off road. Never parked outside. Always...
71' resto mod fj40
Was hoping for some advice and any observations on this one. I looked at it over a month ago and the dealer (consigner) now says there is a motivated seller. Looks clean at least. Aluminum tub, nice paint, 350 conversion looks nicely done. The wiring looks like a nightmare though. Aftermarket harness. Brake lights not working, heat is there but not hooked up. Of the switches, only the lights and wipers are wired. I can think of some suspension upgrades and a lot of time into rewiring. I do like the restored and modified type so this one is calling to me. I could use some help talking me out of it or into. https://www.classicautomall.com/vehicles/2124/1971-toyota-land-cruiser vin is not matching, body and frame. It is a specialty...
AL 1975 FST 2nd owner
No affiliation: I went to look at this today. Turns out to be a January ‘75 FST. Runs well. The late owner (2nd owner) used this to occasionally drive in town and take it hunting. The current owner (daughter) rarely drives it and just doesn’t need it. It’s a FST with a complete best top and doors, hard top and hard doors, and bikimi top. It is fairly stock (original drivetrain, original running gear, recovered front seats, original troop seats. Repainted. However the hardtop and doors are still a white color. Owner seems to think that the original paint was just painted over. But she’s not totally sure. They is some rust. See pics. Bottom line it is a driver. It is also cool because you could buy bows and a soft top and go back to FST...
