155k, has been sitting in my shop for two years waiting for restoration. That is not gonna happen. I got as far as removing the fenders and dismantiling some minor stuff when other responsibilities got in the way.
The truck ran fine when I parked it.
Stock 40, 2F and 4 speed
Stock interior with jump seats. One small cut in the seat bottom drivers seat, otherwise the interior is excellent. Stock unmolested dash, everything works including the instrument lights.
Heat works fine. I took the heater apart and cleaned and flushed the core.
The truck drove like a dream, engine was smooth and it shifted fine and the T case engages well. Slight clutch chatter when cold.

This thing is solid as a rock and runs strong! It's geared to run down the interstate at 60 mph or in low 4 you can crawl up and over anything. With the front axle moved forward 5 inches and 1 ton power steering, you have no drifting in the tire groves on the road. Very secure to take down the road. There are a few things on the list I haven't gotten to. It needs a new oil pan gasket and a new rear transfer case seal as they are leaking. Also the prior owner installed new motor mounts which lowered the motor a bit. This changed the angle on the rear output from the transfer case and the angle on the rear axle which caused a slight...
Hey all, I am posting a link to my 1977 FJ40 that I know I should have posted here first but I was looking for a quick local sale. What I forgot to mention in the ad was that it has corbeau seats and a tuffy lockbox along with 2 6x9 speakers in the back with ipod hookup. The mud price is 4200 and that is pretty firm. I have a 1980 FJ40 all complete and looking to possible sell. This cruiser needs a frame off restoration. The body is very rough on most panels. The motor runs good and does leak some oil. What is a cruiser like this worth? I don't have any photos posted, just curious.

I am looking for a daily driver/mild trail rig that the family and I could enjoy. Stock or lifted is fine with me. NOT looking for a project or a beauty queen. Prefer a turn key transaction. Prefer 1977-1983 40s with original drivetrains but I am open to others years as long as they have been cared for and have some of my preferences below especially 2F and 4 speed.
Everything must be in working order. Little surface rust is ok but rust rot is most likely a deal breaker the higher into my budget we go. Depending on the location I am willing to travel a bit if you are (located in north Texas).
Price wise I have seen some nice rigs in the 10-14K range so that is my budget. Must be willing to send plenty of pics and...
1979 BJ40 Diesel Toyota Land Cruiser. It appears to be in pretty good shape. It has Toyota 4 cylinder, 3.0 liter, diesel, B engine. Left hand drive. It has two rear jump seats. The BJ40 has brand new tires, a new battery, a new starter, new brakes, new master cylinder, new headliner, new door panels and a new fuel injector. This BJ40 is ready to roll and is a super rare nearly rust free diesel 40 model in the US.

I need to figure out how to shorted the link!! Looks nice on the surface for sure...one thing I've learned through my 40 mess is to not trust shiny paint and to take a MUD member (that has a lot more knowledge than me) with me to look when possible!! Still has washington tags, but in Brooklyn NY...some on here would call that a travesty in the making :) but for us east coasters its a reality we live with.
I have a running 1F engine for sale. It runs great, has good power. 72,000 original miles. Leaks some oil from valve cover and side engine cover when driven at highway speeds for length. Has a little blow-by from the breather at higher rpms. No issues when driven locally or off road. No knocks, pings, or strange sounds. Starts right up, even after sitting for a few months. It is still in the truck. I will do a compression test on it if you are interested, and send a video clip of it starting and driving. I will be happy to put it on a pallet and ship it if needed.
Also have a 4 speed transmission. $250?
Asking $400, or trade for a hard top and/or new style front/rear doors.

Not mine however I could use some feedback. First off I think I have seen this posted for a while prior to it being re-posted. Spoke with owner a bit and he said no rust besides rear sill. He said the diamond plate is cosmetic and is not hiding rust. No leaks at ends of axles, differentials, or t-case. Any of you all know/seen/dealt with this 40 at all? What do you all think of the price? Thoughts? Opinions? I will post a few more pics that were sent to me...

Blasted and spray bombed frame. SM465 & NP205 behind SBC 350. Motor mounts are burned in good, but I don’t really like the design for a wheeler. Tranny cross member fabricated from stock GM piece and bolts to frame, but needs another frame side bracket, in my opinion. 14 bolt has been braced, stripped of drum brakes & lower coil spring brackets added. Started building rear lower links from ¼” dom tubing with johnny joints on one end and heavy rubber bushings on the other. Axle side link brackets cut from 3/8” flat stock. Four super beefy 8-bolt military 2-piece wheels...
just getting feelings to see if there is any need for a mid 60s fj40 frame with axles and a marginal tub?
