Beautiful FJ40 For Sale (1962)
SOLD.
This is our FJ40 model Land Cruiser. It is in great shape and runs strong. We've owned it for about 8 years (2002) and have really enjoyed it. This is the one that was on display at My Auto Import Center in Muskegon last year when Toyota was advertising the launch of their new FJ Cruiser.
There were only 598 of these imported to the US mainland in 1962. An additional 2 were imported to Hawaii. This is one of those 2! It spent most of it's life there and received a frame-off restoration in 1996. The owner before us purchased at an antique car auction in Detroit Michigan. He was never able to drive it (medical condition caused weight gain so he didn't fit behind the steering wheel). When we purchased it, it had sat for 4+ years in a warehouse. It has never seen snow or salt to my knowledge.
We brought it home and gave it a little tlc. This included but is not limited to installing a speedometer cable, then installing all replacement gauges, fixing a gas leak, etc. The stuff to get it on the road. Since then we've replaced the front fiberglass seats that were in it with semi-original (from a late 1960s) seats. You can see in a picture that the seat is not an exact match to the toolbox under the driver. We also added a rear bench seat which came out of a 1970s K-5 Blazer. This was a super addition for the kids. It faces forward, has seat belts and is higher with more cushion than the original jump seats. Seat covers would make it look extra sharp. Two bolts and it is removed! We've had the clutch redone at My Auto Import Center and put new tires on it.
This is no ordinary FJ40. Being from 1962 it has many distinctive features that you don't see on others. The most notable feature is the rounded door bottoms. Later years are square. Notice the speedometer. It is silver (most are black) and reads to 100 MPH (other silver ones read to 80). The front round turn signals are original and different from later year’s square ones. Additionally, there are the 2 holes in the front of the hood. This hood is the same as the earlier model FJ25 that had a t-bird emblem on it. There are a few places making aftermarket ones if you wanted to have one on your new crusier.
The engine is the original Toyota F engine. The transmission is the original 3 speed which has been modified to be on the floor instead of "on the tree" as was original in 1962.
The kids don't want us to sell but it is time. Lots of pictures available online at: Picasa Web Albums - Eric - 1962 Cruiser
Asking Price is $8,000 obo.
