Hello, trying to DL Techstream keep getting "fatal error message" on install, any advice would be very appreciated.
Disable your virus protection then right click the installer and run as administrator. If you're on 32 bit windows make sure your using the 32 bit installer, if you're on 64 bit then use the x64

not sure if you ever figured this out, but with the JDM models if you want techstream to work properly, you have to change your local PC region to japan and enable unicode. otherwise most of the boxes appear blank
thats really ahndy- thank you. Where do you enable unicode? in techstream? are you using the international versoin of techstream?

*For JDM models*

Yes I'm using global Techstream set to Japanese region.

For unicode it kind of depends your windows version but
Search -> control panel -> clock and region -> administrative tab -> region set to japan -> uncheck "use unicode UTF-8 (beta)" if it's checked

After that go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\Env\ folder

Open IT3UserCustom.ini with notepad

Under the startup section add TISfunction =0
Code:
;===========================================================================;
;Startup Setting
;===========================================================================;
[RunSetting]
RunTime=1
TISfunction=0

Under the region section add this:
Code:
RegionCode=JP
RegionID=3
Region=Japan

Under the shop information section add this:
Code:
DealerCountry=Japan
DealerCountryCode=JP
DealerCountryID=392

Edit:
As a side note 90% of the people having initial "Unable to connect to VIM" issues just need to edit the driver path in this file (even on US models). Takes like thirty seconds

Getting Techstream up and running can be a bit of a pain. Hopefully this helps someone get started quickly.

Step 1: Purchase an OBD-II / Mini-VCI interface.
- I have sold out of my cables and supply chains are back in order, so no reason to purchase more. Anything like this will work: Mini-VCI cable on eBay

Step 2: Download Hypervisor
Step 3: Install Software You Just Downloaded
  • Windows: Double-Click downloaded file
  • MacOS:
    • Intel Mac: Double-Click downloaded file, run installer
    • M1/M2 Mac: Double-Click downloaded file, drag to Applications folder

Step 4: Download TechStream Image:
- Windows / Intel Mac: LINK
- M1/M2 Mac: LINK

Step 5: Double-Click downloaded file.

Connect & Enjoy.

Edit (04/08/18): I removed the more expensive cable, as I received a new Mini-VCI cable that works 100% at 1/4 the cost.
Edit (02/28/21): Updated links to new versions of Virtualbox & new link to cheap Mini-VCI cable
Edit (10/30/22): M1 Compatible workflow / updated virtualbox links
1) Does it have to be VirtualBox or will VMWare Fusion work?
2) Do I need to use UTM with an M3 chip?
3) Will this work for programming keys?

I'm not sure on any of those questions, but you may have issues connecting to both of those vehicles with one TS setup with that much difference between year models. Maybe im incorrect with my thinking though.

I read that techsream can actuate the CDL on my 2000 lc100. I seem to have access to very few systems though:

Where would I usually find the CDL actuator?

edit;
also everything on customize function screen is empty when i click into the options
on my 2001 LC there's only 5 systems accessible, and only those 5 appear available to select. I'm thinking all these here with *asterisks are systems not available to techstream for your 2000 year model. Notice at top where it says white w/asterisk = ecu not supported or not responding.

Yeah, at the time I thought that maybe they were there (specifically the all wheel drive one) but my PC wasn't picking it up since it's a japanese car. I ended up getting it resolved though
