1971 Toyota FJ40 landcruiser
Hello Everyone, I found this 1978 FJ40 near Winchester, Virginia. It is a 1978 with a 350 engine and Chevy transmission. The transfer case and both differentials are stock. I have no idea why the owner put the pistons on, but they look kind of cool. It has the original seats in the front and the jump seats in the back.
I saw it yesterday and knocked on the owner's door. He was friendly and said he would sell it for $5,000 obo and the original 4 speed transmission for $200.00.
I took some pics. What are your thoughts?
1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with great patina. Asking $9,500. This is my daily driver that has doesn't fail me. All original except for the upgraded seats (I now have more leg room) and exhaust. The dash is uncut where the radio goes. 2F engine with stock rebuilt Aisin carb, 4-speed transmission, front disk brakes. Rear heater works great. I am new to this forum and forums in general. I have really fallen in love with the fj40s and I am looking to purchase one and travel about 1000 miles for the perfect one. Please send them my way.
I wanted to get your thoughts on a car that I saw for sale on ebay. I have attached the link below.
1972 Toyota Land Cruiser
The owner claims that it is an all original car, matching numbers, original engine, tranny, paint, and one owner prior. He alas claims it has the original 38000 miles.
I asked him to prove all this and he said it is not really possible and doesn't have records. I am wondering how I can identity if this information is true.
Also what I should be looking at specifically when buying an fj40. What years are...
It's a 74 with a 4-speed in running and driving condition. Does have a bit of rust (as all of them do) although imo not too bad. Worst spot looks to be the cowel panel. Current owner says it will need a carb rebuild at some point soon. Supposedly frame is in good condition although still waiting for visual documentation.
It has a rebuilt title - PO says a different PO got struck where the cowel panel dent/rust is and that resulted in a rebuilt title.
Positives - new sheet metal flooring in drivers and passenger sides, front disks, new gas tank, new tires, rear sanded down and painted, new battery.
Asking $8500 which seems on the high side to me.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

New to the site and to fj40's. I have been poking around the site forum for a couple weeks now and figured it was time to post. I am interested in someday buying an fj40 but am being very patient in purchasing cause I know I have a lot to learn. So This fj is near me (50 miles) and has caught my eye but I want some opinion before I drive out to look. I realize they are all "pretty pictures" and probably don't show any of the issues...would love any input anyone is willing to offer. Thanks

Found this gem in San Angelo, Texas. I have three projects ahead of this so I am listing before I do anything as I need to thin my heard a little and have some operating cash for the others.
No motor
Comes with 4 speed transmission/tc (will need rebuild), driveshafts, all brake parts including master cylinder and lines still intact
Includes e brake and mechanical parts
No wiring harness
Has speedo housing, heater and blower, computer, etc just no harness
Only rust in the truck is in the rear sill and one of the amby doors is crusty around window and lower edge
Needs a good fiberglass cap as the whole top was laid on the cap for years and it probably could be repaired but it would take a lot of work

This FJ40 was bought fully running a few years ago. I drove it and did upgrades which I will list below. The tub had a lot of rust, and I decided to do a complete restoration. Work has kept me from completing the project, so it needs to go to someone else to finish. I've rebuilt a few FJ40s/FJ62s and own another fully restored FJ40. I tried to add a lot of pictures around all the parts I have. I have already bought or have most of the things needed to get it restored.
