I'm looking at the idea of trading my 72 FJ40 (All Stock) for a FJ60 in better condition and road w orthy. This 40 is NOT running and WILL need alot of work to be on the road. Like I say, I'm not looking to sell, but to see what options there are as far as trades for an FJ60. I can provide details (as much as I know) and definitely any photos that you need. This FJ40 as been for sale on Craigslist for a month. I'm out of state and one of your members says it looks legit by the photos. What's the collective brain trust think? To good to be true?
Selling this for my father-in-law, who had quite a journey getting this vehicle.
You'll see below that it came from Vintage Offroad. That jerk gave my FIL the runaround for years. :mad: The good news is that he did finally get a vehicle. And after having another (local to him) shop do more work, it is a strong runner. See below for details.

1972 FJ40 originally from California. The doors I have had in dry storage since early 80's. Some surface rust but no rusted out places.
Engine, fresh rebuilt 1974 F.5, Crank is .010 on both rods and mains. Bore is 030. Rods were resized. New Toyota cam gear. New Mellings stock replacement cam. Head has all new GM LS valves, springs etc. Head has been surfaced .010. Block has been decked. 020. Engine was run about 30 seconds twice. 3rd time I tried to start it. It was locked up. 2 main bearings were installed wrong. All damage was contained in the rear main journal. No damage to the...

Okay, at the risk of having a good deal bought out from under me, or me buying something that's been pieced together I'm needing some expert opinions on an FJ40 I've been looking at online for a couple months. For an "1981", I'd expect it to have ambulance doors instead of the this older style rear door. I haven't been to see it in person but the dealer is not willing to budge at all on the price. It's a Venezuela import, I found the import documents online and it was imported into Miami on Feburary 2018 and listed as a 1981. It has disc brakes up front. Without having hands on it, I don't know what the body condition is... solid or solid Bondo.
I did a search and don't think this one has been discussed before.
