hi
im new here can any one tell me how many fj45 were imported here during the 60s thanks u

Hey JP!!!! What about SWB's????

 didn't mean to leave you guys out.... Lord knows you SWB guys already have the Napoleon complex :hillbilly:

Here is a quote with some general FJ45 stats from Rick D.:

"I know from the dealer parts manual that production for the fj45 frames (pre 1968) ran from 10,001 to 29,000+. These included all pickup, wagon etc. models worldwide."

So you can figure that maybe roughly 15-20% came to the US, so that would be 3-4,000 range and the majority of them were LPBs, with LVs being the next most common, and SWBs the most rare.

I could be way off, but that is my best stab at it:meh:

interesting, I didn't know the #'s started at 10,001.

wondering why?

I don't know the reason, but FJ40s were done the same way....

I would venture a guess that the VIN numbers had to be five or more digits in length, and some countries did not like leading zeroes, such as FJ45-00001. :meh:

Hello, don't forget about the FJ45 Fire Trucks..................

Rick D. is the FJ45 Master, he is stating what the VIN ranges were for pruduction of the FJ45's up through pre 1968. These were VIN ranges, not actual numbers of production.

Toyota built the 45 series (I am basing this on FJ45LV criteria that I have, but I believe it applies to the long, short, and Fire Trucks) with two different VIN sets, the 10000 range, and the 20000 range, and that true quantity produced are not reflected by these VIN number quantities, and may have coincided with FJ40 VIN assignments.

The difference in the ranges denoted manufacturing series changes. On the 45 LV (Wagon) the manuals I have list design changes from the 10000 VINs to the 20000 VINs, example: the different gas tank venting systems, and the change from the exposed gas filler with optional locking cap to the locking cover with plastic filler plug.

I believe that calculating the quantity that may have been imported based on the VIN numbers is not correct, and here is why:

About 30 years ago I was at the Toyota dealer in Fort Collins and asked about FJ45 build numbers. I was shown a manual that had the specific monthly quantities of FJ45's manufactured up through the 1967 model years (so it would include 45 Wagons, the 45 long and short beds, and fire trucks, but not the FJ55).
I painstakingly added them all and the number was a little over 4400. This does not include the later FJ45s from 1968 and up.
Take this for what it is worth, as I have no way to document this, but it is what I saw back then.
There seems to be a lot more 45's available now, as the internet has opened up communication on their existence, it is no longer localized (even including threads like the "Land Cruiser Graveyard", of which these Cruisers have been relocated). So this may lead people to believe that more of the old 45's exist than really do.
As far as how many were imported, to the USA, that number is probably lower than was previously speculated at below, especially when you consider that Toyota exported them all over the world, and they were highly popular in Africa and South and Central America.
Best regards,
Eric C.
