So true and there is a reason for that...Best perk of the 250 IMO is the fact that you can buy one new. The used market for other cruisers is challenging to say the least.
Isn’t it beneath you to be slumming in the 250 Landcruiser forum? So true and there is a reason for that...![]()
Not slumming at all. Yours actually looks pretty nice.Isn’t it beneath you to be slumming in the 250 Landcruiser forum?
TY. It is Underground. I took a leap a faith and bought it without seeing it in person after test driving a white one locally. Not slumming at all. Yours actually looks pretty nice.Is that Underground? I think it is the best of the current Toyota colors. We got that for my wife's 4runner as the last year of the 5thgen.
Word!
Ok, fill me in on this. I haven’t seen a generator thingy on my 1958, and I have noticed my battery is at 1/2 or 5/8 full at best. I’m obviously missing something?
It’s like a brand new 60 series with tech. I love it!
Screams inferiority complex to me. I grew up in relatively poor rural nowhere, where some wealthy people came to fish and hunt. Strangely, I never thought of them as arrogant or lackimg in self awareness. Sometimes clueless in the wilderness, but that's a different topic...Stereotypes exist for a reason.
I spent a lot of my childhood one on several of our blue-ribbon trout streams. We ran into those kind of people all of the time. I found them to be arrogant, lacking in self awareness, and often bad at fishing. They acted annoyed by the mere presence of us locals.
However I felt some of the self-awareness they may have been lacking the first time I loaded my then-new titanium, wireless-shifted gravel bike on top of my lifted Lexus....

Did you grow up in SW CO or live there now? I love that part of the world other than it being totally overrun with tourists.Screams inferiority complex to me. Needless to say but when I visit other areas (for work and vacation) I try to be respectful of the local people and customs. If I lived in the San Juans I'd probably get pretty sick of Texans flying down trails in their SXSs, flatlanders smoking their brakes coming off of every pass, and certainly people going into the wilderness unprepared.
The first few times we went out there was in June and July, and it was definitely a madhouse (but - to your point - still fun which is why we keep going back). We went after Labor Day 2024 and it wasn't too bad at all. None of the places we went were super-packed, outside of coming down the west side of Engineer Pass where there was quite a bit of traffic, and a surprising amount of people camping in the American Basin and along the Lake Fork in general. I think we'll go back again after Labor Day in 2026 to hit Black Bear and Imogene as they were closed due to mudslides. We travel to SW Colorado fairly often, but always after Labor Day. It’s never been crowded. I lived for 30 years in Whistler, which is a giant ski resort (now owned by Vail) and tourist fatigue is real. There is always a way to escape though… Where I live now is a summer resort area, and the lake and town are overrun in the summer months with “Canadian Texans” (Albertans) who have zero regard for locals and local laws on fishing, hunting etc. The pain is real!
JChasse, which part of Sw Co are you from? I’ve got friends living in Durango, Saw Pit and Norwood.
How do you know that? Did you ask them their socioeconomic status at the time? I wouldn't make any assumptions around my area. People are just people. It's kind of funny as now, a few decades later, I'm in the same bracket of educational, career, and income attainment as they were at the same age. But I still have a deep seated aversion to ever looking or acting like one of "those" people.
Agreed... sounds like Rednexus has issues.Screams inferiority complex to me. I grew up in relatively poor rural nowhere, where some wealthy people came to fish and hunt. You live in the Bay Area, one of the highest-income areas in the US. I live in the Ozarks. The median household income many Bay Area counties is literally 3X what it is for many of the counties here. These are not assumptions or my perceptions, they are facts that demonstrate just how much inequality there is in our country. You and I might as well live on different planets (for the record, I've enjoyed every trip I've made to the Bay Area). How do you know that? Did you ask them their socioeconomic status at the time? There's no recall on the motor in the GX550After spending way too much time on this subject (and this forum) it came down to "What are your other options?" The main complaints are
1. Too expensive (idk what isnt these days)
2. Unproven motor (warranty covers this)
3. Not as big and powerful as 300 (not offered in the USA)
4. Not as nice as the 200 (But like $30k cheaper)
5. Not as off road worthy as the 80 (i would argue in a lot of ways it is a modern 80 series)
For New Vehicles its:
Ford Bronco
Jeep Wrangler
GX550
Grenadier
Gwagon
Defender
4Runner
Where I live, TOYOTA dealers are offering non-transferable Lifetime Powertrain Warranties on the new vehicles. I am not aware of a dealer doing this on the Lexus GX550 or any of non Toyotas. So in my mind, If youre going to own the vehicle for 10+ years, that makes the Toyotas better.
Ford Bronco - While certainly more cabable off road, its not as comfortable on-road. Theyre louder on the road and you will have issues at about 100k with Drive train (like all Fords this needs to be built into your cost). Regarding Price, a fully spec'd out Bronco with Sway Bar Disconnect and all the features will be $60K-65K (Badlands - Sasquatch-Hard Top) If you wanna take the top off and doors off, more power to you. Buy a Bronco. However, there is no doubt the LC has a higher level of class and will most likely retain re-sale value better in 5 years.
Jeep Wrangler - Same story as Bronco. A little less expensive. Fully Spec'd out a Rubicon is $60K.
GX550 - Same price in off-road configuration... a little more fancy perhaps? Certainly looks more ostintatious. No lifetime powertrain warranty and we know there is a motor recall.
Grenadier - More Beautiful Vehicle. Better off Road, not as good on road. $80k cost but still no proven warranty.....also, unknown the future of the company. Will it have reliabilitiy issues like Land Rovers?
GWagon - Very Sexy, Better on Road. Maybe a little worse off road? hard to modify. Expensive Reliability issues down the line. $130k
Defender - Very sexy but not as good looking as the Grenadier and also not as good off road. SUPER expensive to modify or have long term reliability. Resonably priced at $80K.
4Runner - Better off road IF you have wide open spaces. Worse on Road than LC but not by much. Pricing is Better than the LC and you have the same lifetime warranty.... All great wins for 4Runner. The only problem is people might confuse you for a 16-23 year old girl.
Unless you are a young girl, have a ton of extra money to blow, drive exclusively in Moab or plan on selling the car before 60k miles, this is an incredible vehicle.
to be more concise, i dont think there is a better mid sized SUV for the office professional who needs to go off road on weekends, values a warranty, likes new cars and doesnt want to break the bank.
Isnt this the same motor in the 2024 Tundra? if not, ill edit. There's no recall on the motor in the GX550
Well, kidding, fine but you came off as arrogant and condescending. Yes, the Bay Area itself is wealthy but there's no wheeling in the Bay Area. Most wheeling is in the mountains or outskirts. There's more of a wealth disparity in CA than most of the country.... but perhaps more shades of it than Missouri. I still take some sh*t on the trails for wheeling my 27 year old Lexus (all in good fun though). You live in the Bay Area, one of the highest-income areas in the US. I live in the Ozarks. Perhaps helping folks realize how they might be perceived when they cross a continental-sized socioeconomic divide is a bit of a foreign concept. Or, maybe there is just a lack of awareness of what it's actually like for the people who live on the other side of it. My perspective is unique as I navigate the divide on a daily basis, including going out of my way to help people in my community who are deserving, but stuck on the other side of that divide.
Just for the record, my original post was meant to the funny, but certainly based on real-life experiences. I parked next to an Ineos at the airport a couple of weeks ago (the first one I'd seen in person) and that was my gut reaction to seeing one. I was laughing to myself as I typed that post. Maybe I've watched too many Regular Car Reviews videos. Regardless, the RCR videos and corresponding stereotypes are hilarious if you haven't seen them before.
The recall covers vehicles manufactured from July 2021 - Feb 2023, before the GX550 was being made. And all of them made either in the US or Yoshiwara. None were made in the Tahara plant where the GX is manufactured as far as I know.Isnt this the same motor in the 2024 Tundra? if not, ill edit.
