I think it will feel quicker to drive than a 200, and might shock you with those 0-60mph times, not that we buy them for that.

people always want what they can't have.
If the 300 was sold in the US now it would have had poor sales still.
It is just too boring to look at in its current form, it won't sell. People will acknowledge it sure but you need to spark actual emotion with the design for an LC to sell in the US, not just a low price. The 250 does that.
We here are the minority. The average US buyer will look at a 300 and think it looks too boring and not even look twice and that's before we even mention the price.

Always compared to a vehicle that technically it didn't succeed. If you compare it to the 150 series, the 250 is incredible.
For the rest of the average US consumers, they will forget the 200 even existed other than whatever YouTube video some influencer come out with in 10 years that has the title of ''The best Land Cruiser you didn't know existed''.
I own a 300 series and I'm ready to sell it tomorrow to get a 250 if the price is right.
I will not be caught up in the drama of paying over msrp and I will be willing to wait until they are available, but not long enough that the 300 gets another update...I would choose an update 300 over a 250.
I would need to test drive one first though.
Rectangular lights for me though, those round ones are too fj cruiser.
I don't care what spec, just needs to have a locker and the new turbo 2.4 engine.

If you want HD - Sequoia is a size up from LC300 in powertrain strength.
My issue with the light duty powertrain is that it's priced as a mid range LC 300, built like 4Runner, and will sit next to a to 4Runner on the lot that's likely $10-15k less expensive and almost certainly more capable. So - who's it for?
Looking at trends - I bet a dollar the lc250 is at least $5k under MSRP within a year.

I bet that too. Especially so once the the 4Runner is released.
the GR sport 300 is so overrated and overpriced vs other LC300 trims.
only thing it offers other 300s don't is ekdss.
They could do way better.
Yes, I agree the GR sport has the potential to be that HALO 300 that could possibly sell in America...but it would definitely need some more spicing up.
I think the closest thing the US will get is a overtrail triple locked LX 600.

This is exactly correct, even from Toyota themselves.
They didn't need two large SUV's, LC didn't sell nearly well enough so it was dropped and to fill the gap they made the Sequoia slightly smaller and more off road worthy (replacing IRS for a solid rear axle for example). So if you're in North America, have an LC200 and want the next generation "heavy duty" 4x4 SUV, Toyota will steer you towards the 3rd gen Sequoia, not the 250.

Brown, you think the 250 is an improvement over the 150?
A lot of 150 petrol version were sold with naturally aspirated V6's. The small ICE with turbo and hybrid in the 250 is more complex. Maybe the diesel versions are more similar, then again DPF emission systems have messed up their reliability.
Also do you have info saying the 250 drive train has more strength, durability and spare capacity compared to the 150?
I am not necessarily convinced Toyotas designed in the nineties and early two thousands by 99.9% Japanese teams focused on building high quality vehicles are less conservative than the recent designs from a more global group (apparently engineers from the US were involved...), with a political push woven in there (EPA, mpg targets) and marketing derailing newer designs, resulting in Engineers having to compromise.
The diffs are the same size for the Prado 150 vs 250.
But the GX 550 has bigger diffs than the GX 460.
The frame is also much stronger/bigger on the 250 vs 150 and I am sure that would apply to other mechanical parts too.
Reliability will be hard to beat the 1GR.
I guess it's about perspective.
The 3rd gen sequoia is a total no go without full time 4WD. By them excluding it on the new 3rd gen when the 2nd gen had that feature was a big fail.
I am equally not so sure with the current mind set to safe weight to improve MPG and use more light alloys. It maybe higher strength on day one but does not hold up over time or distance. The reason many of us like Toyota vs Land Rovers/Range Rovers/Mercs etc is a product which is build to last and has plenty design margin so it will not break even after many years of heavy duty. Once Toyota loses their shirt on that, like the Tacoma TFL failure doing a simple climb, I actually do not see the value proposition anymore.
Fully agree. As you can guess, I am very underwhelmed what I see in the new Toyota 250.
I think it depends on how much you need HD and how much you need highway simplicity. I don't think there are any AWD transfer cases as big as the Sequoia's. So they had to choose strength or AWD for the hybrid Sequoia. Obviously they choose the HD powertrain option.
I do think they are making a huge error by not offering a Sequoia non hybrid with AWD. I don't care about AWD myself. But I would buy a non hybrid Sequoia just to get the cargo area back. And they could use the AWD transfer case. Brings in a lot of buyers.
I agree. I don’t understand Toyota’s thought process to make a hybrid that doesn’t increase efficiency, rather just a temporary torque boost, which then makes it so they can’t offer AWD due to the increased torqued when practically all of their competitors do.
