We have a rough mall parking lot, they should really soak up the curbs and speed bumps...

CTW at the end of the month is my goal for finishing the rear. Otherwise typical snow and high desert runs throughout the winter. Next year hoping to do Moab, Fordyce and Rubicon in that order.

Coilovers are way overkill, all started with wanting to lower it and needing to replace the trashed OME shocks. Along with redoing the steering and needing the real-estate the factory coils occupy.

If I ever finish my current build, I’d be interested in wheeling with you. Haven’t don’t much at all in WA or OR. Since I moved up here seven years ago I have gone back to CA for most of my wheeling with a Cruise Moab and a Rubithon event in there a couple of those years.

Just found this, didnt know you started a thread.
You have done a lot of "Out of the Box" mods I rarely have seen...hope it handles going down the road for you.
From memory, it looks like you took ideas from nukegoats Marshmellow.
Its weird not seeing the rear panhard rod.
Looks like you have done previous modding to rigs before this 80.
Milling out your own high steer is impressive.
I'm looking forward to more updates.

Cruising The Woods it at Browns camp at the end of September, it's always a fun event with great people.

My one main goal is Moab next year. It's harder to find time these days, plus I've slowed down on the harder stuff. Really enjoy technical wheeling, and out growing the bounce up and off of things. Maybe thats why snow has me really intrigued.

We do a trip near the end of January, pretty decent snow campout/wheeling/explore. Your more than welcome to join us, as is anyone that is self sufficient.

Otherwise it'd be fun to find some time to get together and do some wheeling!

Worse case next time you are headed south let's see if we can make something happen.

Yup, took his idea and tweaked the numbers a little. Wanted a little more AS and dialed in for lower lift and higher lower links at the frame.

It is still weird no see nothing past the axle, but pretty amazing to have zero body roll steer input and not feeling the rear squirm under suspension bump.

Really looking forward to seeing how it reacts at higher speeds with more travel in the 'rough' stuff.

Hoping to have a little more progress this week. Mom is gone and I'm incharge of the toddler and Labrador. Basicall two children being guided by a larger adult child

I’ve been to Brown’s camp 3 or 4 times. Fire Break five is a fun trail. Other than that on everything else is super easy or those man made crazy hard black and double black diamond trails or crushers. No thanks.

CTW is an event I will go to some day. I don’t think my rig will be ready to go wheeling this January. We will see. I do like snow wheeling a lot especially at night. Perhaps the best snow trip I have ever done was around Olallie lake Oregon. Was deep pounder. We wheeled until the sun came up then slept in a forestry owned rustic cabin that’s first come first serve. Good times!

Sounds like a great trip! We have two older cabins we like to try to make it too. Down here usually the snow is winter packed pretty good, so it's a great balancing act to stay on top while not plowing. All weaving through big drifts, super fun! We'll make something work at some point!

Current rev. mount. Look good, shock top will not be any further forward than this, need to get a mount up there all while missing the seat and it's fold down motions.

Going to make one small tweak for the drivers side and start doodling up the upper mount. Think the reservoir will end up being inside if I can snake the mount around it...

Great Thread
Like others I just found it 🤠
I recognize your handle but it’s nice to see this new thread, lots of kool stuff going on.

Also interested in wheeling with other self sufficient individuals.
Rubicon, Fordyce, Moab are very familiar to me as well as Sand Hollow.
Would be interested in Snow wheeling also.

The high steer arms look Kool !! Any plans to make more. 🤓

Unlike some of my friends my rig is ready to rock !! Come on Steve get that thing put together !! 🤷‍♂️

Yes! Sand hollow would be a fun time also, basically any technical wheeling is intriguing. I'll post up later this year about snow wheeling, might even plan a couple of trips.

Right now, no on the high steer arms. I might whittle out other sets at some point. Currently I am planning on going to some Hellfire knuckles this fall, want to get some ackerman and steering angle back. Or I might re-design them a little to get some ackerman?

Back to designing some upper mounts, coils and limit straps will be here tomorrow. Maybe I'll have stuff tacked together enough to get it on it own weight!

Couldn't wait, so played with it for a half an hour, this is a quick start with what the new tower will look like.

Still need to add a couple alignment tabs, 'back' brace and upper tab mount.

Might end up having a 1-1/2" tube between the two... I am not super happy with how much this intrudes into the rear storage, but picture an 8x8x8 box from the fender to the mid row seat.

Washers are there to figure out the spacing. Towers will be asymmetrical, but made from the same blanks. Will end up being 3-1/2" wide at the top and about 8" at the bottom.

It is spaced away from the seat as when folding the rear corner swings in a arc and is about 1/2" away from where the box will be.

Actually has clearance and full travel. Ignore the bump-stop extension/extension/extension. The two inches of shock shaft is for the some day hydro bumps.

Yes it's dark, rainy and potato picture time.

I did find some super heavy duty drawer slides, 3+" tall. Guess I'll have to build a low profile platform with some drawers.
