I have this bright yellow lava looking stuff on the back side of my 2F. When I wiped it with my finger, it looked like pollen and had no smell. I have never seen anything like it.
I recently disconnected my air condenser and Air dryer and I am wondering if it is related. I looked around but could not see where it was coming from. I will need a little mirror or camera. My oil looks good. The Radiator is removed and I am replacing it. I did overheat last drive, which prompted the Radiator swap, thermostat, and new Ac equipment (which has not been removed except for the Ac condenser. Any thoughts? Thanks
Any thought? Thanks

It looks like a corrosion precipitate of some sort. You can see rust stains beneath the yellow lava flow. Likely there's a coolant leak back there somewhere and there may have been funky coolant in the cooling system. It ain't pollen that's for sure

3 things come to mind: either dried up coolant, possibly corrosion from a leaky battery, or if someone had used a UV die in your AC system and that sprayed out or leaked out and dried.

Does you noticing this correlate with the overheating? With overheating comes pressure.....possible freeze plug.
I'm not 100% sure but I think there's a freeze plug in the back of the block in that vicinity. I'll verify when I get home
this evening.

That leak is just under where the pipe and hose for the rear heater runs; it may be leaking, rusted out, if you still have it.

If that is coolant/antifreeze, somebody put the yellow sh!t in (HOAT coolant), instead of the old school green. It's the wrong coolant for that engine. If Yellow got mixed with the Green, that's bad news...

There was another thread sometime in the last year about this same stuff. I think it involved southern rigs, and possibly something from driving through some kinda particular mud? I can't remember exactly, but I bet you can find the thread.

Ok, nevermind. I guess the question wasn't answered.

My guess is the yellow coolant. Time for a full cooling system flush, water pump change if it's due (after flushing) and fill with new water pump, new tstat and new radiator cap.

I'm due for just this as well, but always ran the Toyota red with Water Wetter added in. Hoping to get er done before the end of summer.

Yep, my guess is the plug in the head or the block may be compromised. Worth a pressure test to be sure.

Maybe time new freeze plug(s) too?

I discovered the yellow stuff is on both sides of the back of the engine, almost in the same spot. Seems to be where bellhousing & engine bolt together..?

As someone mentioned above, there's a freeze plug also, back of head, that could be leaking. You need a mirror or telescopic mirror and check there.

I am very curious as to what this is all about. My best guesses agree with the other Mudder's but I'm waiting for the rest of the story done in the likeness of Paul Harvey.
