So ..... here we go ........
I'll start by saying that I'm not much of a social media person, or big poster. I enjoy reading about builds and get some good ideas from these posts but am not crazy about showing off my stuff or fishing for validation. Likewise the criticism and sarcasm turns me off since we all have our reasons for the way that we build stuff and no two people like or need the same modifications.
This is my build:
June 2022 while perusing the flea market adds on ADVrider I saw a 1999 LC100 advertised. From what was advertised, it appeared to be a good foundation for a build (which is what I was looking for). The seller stated that "this is no show vehicle and the interior is less than good, but mechanically sound". He was asking $10,500 with 289,000 miles. Frame pictures looked rust free and there were two small rust areas on the body. Several small dents & scratches, the the paint was sub par, but it wasn't "that" bad. So I messaged him and told him that I was interested but not at 10,500. Wished him luck with the sale and told him that I didn't want to insult him but if he ever got to the point of accepting $7,500 I'd be a buyer. With in hours, he got back to me and said he'd take it.
I'm in Illinois, the LC was in Florida, so we made arrangements and I flew to Orlando, he brought the LC to the airport, did the deal, and I drove it home.

It had an OME suspension lift, an Ironman front bumper, and 10,000lb winch.
On the way home, I quickly became aware that the shocks were junk, and the brakes were in need of attention. But everything was as I expected and was super pleased with the purchase. The cheap seat covers hid the interiors deficiencies

Got home, put it in the garage and proceeded to have some fun. It was not to be driven on the road again until this week, 9 months later.

First order of business was to remove the metaltec sliders. They seem to be built well but I just didn't like the looks of them and wanted to build my own. Then the front bumper ....... The bumper itself is not bad. It's well built and not completely ugly, but the brush bars and bull bar assembly imo is just repulsive. So some serious modifications are in order. Replaced the shocks with OME Nitrochargers. Replaced the rear rotors and brake pads. The front axle boots had just been replaced by the previous owner so I left those alone and pulled the front hubs and rotors. Replaced front bearings, new rotors and brake pads. Went ahead and installed locking hubs knowing that I was going to install Cruiser Teq's part time conversion kit.
Back to the sliders ........ Got me some 1.75 x .095 round tubing and fabbed the new sliders. Had them powder coated after several test fits then set them off on the side waiting for final assembly,

Sliders look great. I like the extra reinforcement you put on the feet. My WKOR just have the single flat plate.

This looks like a fun build to follow along with. Congrats on your purchase!

On to the front bumper ....... I cut all of the upper bars and guards off. Made a inset tray in the middle on the top to set the control box in, then bent the top bull bar wide enough to accept a 30" Rough Country light bar. Then bent the outer tubes to set about an inch above the bumper but under the headlights. Once I was pleased with the results I had the entire bumper powder coated.
I don't have any pics of the finished bumper except on the finished truck so you'll just have to wait to see it.
The interior was a mess under the seat covers. So I decided to recover everything and replace the carpet too.
I'm not very good about taking pictures during a project. I get focused on the end result and just keep charging ahead. So most of what I post is finished material. I have very little experience with upholstery, but I was determine to do this myself. So I got the complete kit from Land Cruiser parts along with the carpet. New front lower and upper cushions from Toyota, and some color matched leather for the rear of the front seats.

While all this was going on I also removed the dash and ran all the wiring for the front upper & lower lights, rear lights, and aux battery connect.
A new Kenwood Excelon DNX697S was installed.

Additionally the wiring for the rear inverter was ran and I installed a ARB rear drawer setup.

It's easy to overlook some of the details when you're going back through 9 months of work. I'll try to pick up some of the overlooked stuff as I go.
I scored a set of 5 - 18"x 8" Toyota Pro BBS black wheels and am using Cooper LT295/70R18 Discoverer S/T Maxx tires. Hurican tailgate storage kit was installed. While working on the interior, the steering wheel was replaced, gear shift knob replaced, and gear indicator plate was replaced with ZR Tactical Solutions billet shift plate. We won't spend much time mentioning the K&N Cold Air Intake System since that seems to be a controversial topic.;) Installed Borla cat-back stainless exhaust. (really does sound sweet).

Aux Battery setup ......... I built a custom fit platform for the right fender well. Installed a Otima group 35 yellow top battery for the OE replacement. Then mounted a Optima group 51 yellow top on the passenger side for the aux battery. Along with this I used a CH 48160 battery isolator to connect the two with the alternator. Then a solenoid is wired in to connect the two batteries in case the main needs help in starting. This solenoid is operated by a switch on the dash and simply completes a ground with the power coming from the Aux batt. From there I have a four - relay / four - fuse block that supplies the aux lights. Also a positive & negative post that the winch & inverter are ran from. The power steering reservoir was relocated to this platform.

I believe it was Clint Eastwood in a Dirty Harry movie that said "A man's got to know his limitations". Mine is body work! I hate it, don't do it well, and avoid it. But I do have a nephew that does amazing work. So the next part of this is all his handiwork.
Their ended up being three rust spots that needed fixing. The front lower right rear fender, the rear lower left rear fender, and the bottom of the rear hatch. These were cut out, metal patch pieces made, and welded in.

Now at this point, I need to pause and explain some of my personal quirks ......... I have owned black vehicles in the past. Never been my first choice but it is tolerable. Black is a beautiful color on a vehicle when its clean and polished, but it's so difficult to keep it that way. Consequently from day 1 I have not been excited about the color, but felt like I was going to have to live with it because of all that's involved in changing a color correctly.
Side Bar:
While I've been working on this LC, my son has been building a 12' Mini-Jet all aluminum boat. It's also in my garage because I've been doing all the aluminum welding and fabricating on it.

While discussing what the finished exterior would look like, It occurred to me that I was not locked in to repainting the LC black, but could easily make black the secondary color and make the primary color my favorite red.
Oh, yeah ....... the boat ........

So, anyway, this revelation opened up a whole new thought process in how I was going to finish the exterior. The mirrors, door handles, side moldings, bumpers, and sliders were all set to be satin black. Now for something completely different ....... Satin Vampire Red! o_O

I realize that it's sacrilegious to not have a conventional LC color but.....

Don't worry ........ It grows on you ;)

Ok, now to start wrapping this up (pardon the pun):giggle:

I switched the front grille, Headlight assemblies, lower valance panels, and rear light assemblies to '06 LC mainly cause I liked the look.
Stay tuned ...... there's still more.

Love the bold color palette (love it all, really). I've been waffling about doing my door handles in black so this is great to see.

What's the story with the front wheels' center caps being different?

Those are not center caps .... those are the lock out hubs. Haven't got the Cruiser Teq part time conversion kit installed yet, but when I do the lock outs will be necessary. For now they are just locked in all the time which makes it work like the stock hubs.

Looks great! I especially like the contrast of red and black.

Awesome! I'd love to repaint my black LC one day, but his cry the first time I took it down a tight trail!

Next up is the roof rack. After doing what seems like an eternity of research, I decided on a Gobi rack. I know that there are some Gobi haters here because of their customer service, but I didn't have any issues at all. I chose the Gobe for a couple of reasons ........ It's got a perfect contour to the profile of the roof. Its tapered in on the sides and doesn't look "boxy". It's all tube construction. And they offer Alu-cab brackets for the 270 degree Alu-cab awning.
Installation was very simple and it fit like a glove. I got the rack with the sun roof opening along with the insert. Mounted two Rough Country lights on the rear and removed the way-to-large "GOBI" decal from the deflector.

For those interested, I placed the order from GOBI on August 12th and received the rack September 27th.
Construction and finish are first class.

The rear bumper was a no brainer ........ had to be Dissent. I placed the order on July 14th and received my V3 on November 28th. It's just hard to improve on perfection! This bumper is well built, and well thought out. The fit & finish couldn't be any better. I have my spare tire swing-out on the passenger side, and got the drivers side swing-out unfinished so that I can fabricate the mounting for my Hollywood Racks e-bike rack. Then powder coat it before installation.

And the icing on the cake was the sombrero. The only new badges that I could find were chrome plated so I had to soda blast the chrome and paint with satin black. Haven't decided yet if I will do the same to the Land Cruiser badges.

Still more to come but for now this is how it turned out.
