Rear shocks need to be replaced...they look wet, not too bad, but they've been that way for awhile. Truck feels like it has no shocks now, front to back. Tech says just to replace rears, but this sounds like a big no no if the XREAS system has lost too much fluid. Probably original 2004 shocks. How can leaking rear shocks not screw the whole system? Is there something I'm missing about the workings of the XREAS system?

I'm not looking to replace the whole system if I can indeed just replace the rears and everything goes back to normal.

XREAS links all the fluid in all the shocks. So if one or more leak long enough it drains the entire system.

Ya, that's what I know too...but how can the tech judge how much has leaked out and if only the rear shocks need to be replaced? So, I put then new shocks on and find out the whole system is Kaput? is that what they would do too? I've got brand new rear xreas shocks to put on, but don't want to ruin them if I have to ditch the whole system and go with normal shocks.

BTW, I called them back, the Japanese service rep asked the tech, he said replace the rear shocks she said.... Well I said, that wasn't really the question I asked...so the snot bag next to her grabbed the phone, tried to blab about the air bag suspension system (which I disconnected and made it manually inflatable) and I said, I'm sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about and absolutely cannot answer my question unless you are a trained service technician with experience on this system...she then said, "I'm going to put you on hold while I transfer you to a male!"

I do my own work, just took it to the dealer for an inspection.... $13000+ they wanted to fix everything! crazy!

Sounds like they don't know what they are doing.
