I did some requisite searching using various combinations of key words (tools, wrench, socket, size) and didn't really come up with the answer.

Other than the 54mm axle socket, what size bolts/nuts larger than 19mm are to be found on our 80s? I'm beefing up my tool inventory but don't want to buy something large and expensive that I won't ever use.

24mm or 15/16" (pretty much the same)

Correct me If I'm wrong, but I think you need a 22mm to drop the front radius arms.

24mm-Diff and tranny drains

30mm-Forget where, but used

32mm--most common-Pinion nuts, Pittman nut, t-case outputs

36mm--T-case input lock nut (60 series)

Big nut on front pulley is 40 something

54mm

I recently had to buy a 1 5/16 combination wrench for the Steering linkage lock nuts on my FJ60 (GM 1 ton ends), also good for home defence

Anyway more tools are better, so if you buy one you don't use often, it won't hurt anything.

21 - Lugnuts
22 - Front control arms nuts/bolts, panhards?
24 - Drain/fill plugs on all 3 diffs, nuts on frameside of front control arms, panhards?

I've never used anything bigger (other than 54mm for front axle), but I haven't done everything.

Thanks everyone for the input so far!

That's generally my philosophy as well but I didn't want, for example, to buy everything from 20mm to 30mm in both deep and shallow sockets and combination wrenches if I wasn't going to ever use 2/3rds of them.

I also assume that one would prefer 6pt sockets in these larger sizes? I have 6pt and 12pt, both deep and shallow, in multiple drive sizes for everything from 19mm down.

I only have 6 point sockets except for the 12-point 17mm socket I had to buy to remove the gear from the power steering pump. I remember using 12 point sockets on 6 point fasteners and never having good results.

Big nut on the 1FZ-FE crank pulley is 30mm so that is what you forgot.

The big nut on the EGR tube is in this range but you should use large pliers on that and not a spanner. I used a Craftsman Robogrip pliers.

You are right, on F series motors it's 40 something!

This is good advice and the reason to buy a set of the larger sizes even though some of the sizes might not be used on the 80. At CM last year, we had a 4Runner that lost a front CV joint. They needed a fairly large (~29mm IIRC) socket that I didn't have in my trail tool kit. Fortunately, a friend had his mini-truck birf kit and he had the socket size needed. So, the moral of this story is buy a set of the larger sizes and carry them in your trail kit 'cause someday one of your buddies will bust something on their Land Rover and you can be the hero for the day. :D

big ol nut on the 60 crank is 46mm, but you might figure out what it is in SAE as the metric ones in that size-range tend to be expen$ive

I carry a
21 mm socket
22mm socket
15/16 socket
21mm combo wrench
22mm combo
24mm combo
24/26 closed wrench
54mm socket

12" crescent for other stuff

wrenches

I'm changing the Head Gasket on my 93 LC and used a 32mm open end box wrench on the nut for the EGR and 30mm open end on the cam shaft to hold it and turn.:)
