po mods

my po put an "1 1/2 galvanized pipe in the tail gate like for an extra gas tank in the bed or something like that and pop rivited it in place. Its just odd, :meh::o
other than that nothin

Previous previous owner tried to run a 12v winch and the trailer lights of one of the batteries on my 24v HJ60. Moron.

I really enjoyed the way the seatbelts were tied (not bolted) in a knot around the tack welded seat mounts:hillbilly:. The front tack welds on the passenger seat mount broke on the test drive and the PO went flying into the back of the truck right when he told me to "punch it!"

This had me in stitches just picturing this in my mind! Classic!

Dual Battery set-up --- Fixed
Entire driveline was packed with grease instead of gear oil ---Fixed
Installation of a stupid Rochester carb that I hope to replace soon

I'm sure to find more issues down the road...

most my PO mods are well done ... other then the sewer pipe bumper  but its gone now all 75 lbs of it

but he did "balance" the rear shaft with hose clamps

Rynolining everything without covering the wiring/buts/bolts first... Working out where a wire goes is a complete guessing game!

Found on my '81 FJ40: Hood of a Honda used to patch the floorboards, held in with sheetmetal screws, rivets, silicone, and household window caulking ... The emissions sticker was the giveaway. Aluminum roof sheathing under bondo to patch quarter panels. 1/8 plate held in the bed with 3/4" bolts and tack welds. PVC pipe drains in the floorboards, ah, hood, ah ... whatever. But my all-time favorite hack was on a rat rod, where all-thread was used to create u-bolts for the front I-beam axle.

And I thought mine was bad!!! I had the usual stuff...chopped and hacked wiring, bondo over rust, chicken dropping welds on an excuse for a cage (which he was kind enough to grind down without covering the windshield), caravan seats installed with home made 1" square tube mounts (passenger seat sat so high I could look over the windshield. And a sweet channel iron bumper he used for bouncing off of trees when he couldn't make the corner. But no orange and green shag carpet. Oh yeah, he also bent the rain rail around the top over to hold the fiberglass top on.

Kling-on gotta love that front bumper!!! Holy pipe,s*** that is a big sucker-Nice winch!! Looks like a stump puller- 250lb. w/a 1/8" cable!!
Yea,Run what ya' brung!!!!

Dude wants way to much for that thing, at least most of his cosmetic mods will be easy to fix.

I'd be kind of worried about how the front bumpenstein is welded to the frame. How'd he get the wheels to stick out that far? Spacers? :shudder:

The bastard bondoed over my little kickout vents!!!!!! I want sooooo bad to take a hammer to the bondo and see if at least the frames are still there so I can replace them.. but I'm scared if they aren't I'd had more of a mess to fix.

Other then that... all the horible mods have been mine when I was 16-17 and I had no idea what I was doing... not sure I do yet actually. :)

I was the luck recipient of Romex, a bugger weld holding the steering shaft together, torch cut everything, wirenuts, and as I just discovered redoing the exhaust, flowmasters installed backwards. No pine scent air freshener either.

Somewhere in my '78's past, someone decided to rhinoline EVERYTHING on the inside to include s*%^t handles...wasn't applied correctly to begin with so EVERY TIME it gets warm out, it gets tacky and smears off onto whatever touches it. :bang:
Ahhh, and like someone else previously stated, the sewer pipe front bumper...:o
