So since the sr5 cluster link in the FAQ is no longer valid, it took me some time to figure out out to do this. Thus I will pass the wisdom on to all of you.
I have an 84 22r DLX pickup that was NOT wired for a tac. When I finally got an SR5 cluster I was super bummed to see that the tac didn't work.
So first things first, get yourself a good cluster. Mine was ok but needed some TLC. FYI, check all the contacts for your harness's and bulbs. Do yourself a solid, unlike me, and wire brush them and dab some electrical grease on them. (Also, prior to installing it, yotatech has a great write up on how to turn back the odometer...super easy...fyi read the entire thread first as to not make any mistakes ie **** your speedo spring up by twisting it counter clockwise )
Ok secondly your going to need a spade from a donor cluster harness. Any one from pickups and runners will do. Clip it and solder on (not ass connect) a 3 ft piece of 16 -18 ga wire, preferably black.
Now here is where you don't want to mess up. The tac wire goes in the blue harness. holding it as to install it start from the left and count 6 spots over. Look at where the plug would insert and follow the strip, it should lead to a screw with a P by it. Thats the tac.
In my pic below I show the harness from the runner I pulled the cluster out of. Notice the black wire in the 6th port? Use this to match up your harness.
Stop open a beer and sit back for a minute to marvel Toyota's amazing craftsmanship
Ok now you need to run that wire down behind your dash, right next to your clutch and through the fire wall and out to you coil/igniter. The tac wire needs to plug into the connector with the black cap on it. This i a pic of a coil/igniter setup, yours mabe different but they all should have the black cap connector.
So pop that puppy off, crimp on a spade at the end of your wire and plug her in. I cut a hole in the black cap and ran the wire through it for protection purposes. OK your tac should work but if for some reason it doesn't double check everything and get your hands on a fsm. Below is the list of where things should be in numeric order starting from the left side of the blue harness and working its way across the cluster if that makes sense. Oh and by the way if you don't already know, disconnect your idiot light oil unit ASAP and replace it with the correct oil pressure GAUGE. Failure to do so will result in a ****ed up oil gauge on your cluster. I think that covers it. Check bulbs and contact surfaces, ect, ect.
ENJOY!

Do you have a link for this? I’ve looked and can’t find anything. The backside of the speedometer seems to have a shield to keep people from correcting the odometer, and the wheels are too close together to correct the inside numbers from the front of the speedometer. These are getting expensive and hard to find, I’m trying my best to to screw it up.

I am really digging deep into memory cells. I corrected my SR5 odometer when I installed it. But, that was probably 20 years ago. I seem to recall using compressed air to move the numbers. I have no idea how.

Just put on a speedo cable and attach the other end to the drill and let it roll over ;)
