Hi All:

Ha! As fast as you are up to going! :grinpimp:

I've been up to around 30 mph in my FJ40 with the windshield down.

Regards,

Alan

you could go pretty fast but you'll need goggles

Time to find some goggles so your eyes don't dry out.

Hope you don't catch any bugs in the eyes, nose or mouth!!

i don't know what the wind is like in an air dam like an fj but ill do fifty to sixty on my XR650 with no goggles sometimes.
but my eyes will water then.
is that bad?:hhmm:

but if it's on the road i think that its a law that you at least have eye protection.

After I rolled mine and bent the WS frame I ran for a year till I found another windshield. Def need eye protection and a coat if it's cold, as fast as the old F would take it.

i've run highway speeds many times. only issue was my eyes watering. as mentioned, goggles are a good thing;)

I run mine windshield down on occasion at highway speeds...100 km/hr...with wraparound style sunglasses, or clear wraparound style safety glasses at night...

I keep my hand at the top pf the wheel, and stick my face behind it...have had a few bugs bounce off my hand...and i keep smiling to a minimum : )

My buddy Ian Rogers did an informal test with his FJ40... after snapping one of his windshield hinges on the trail!

We rolled back into town. He bought some cheap wraparound sunglasses, which he ended up wearing AT NIGHT for the 100 mile drive home. I think he said he got up to 55 at some point in the journey, but found it unbearable, even with the sunglasses, and took surface streets the rest of the way.

I've done 5-10 mile stretches at 40-45mph a few times over the years. My wife will no longer drive in the 40 with me unless I promise not to do this. A wasp came thru the front of the rig once while the windshield was down, and it ended up inside the cuff of her shorts in a heartbeat! YEEEOOOUUCH!

I wonder, Is he asking at what speed the windshield hold downs may fail forcing the windshield to fly up? I actually don't put the windshield down as I find the top of the frame to limit my field of view in the rocks.

I did the same thing, only found one much sooner. I remember thinking it would have been cool with the proper eye protection. I stuck to surface streets on the way to work.....

Pick up some of the semi rigid face masks the bikers wear. With those goggles and the mask you'll maintain quite a look while pimp'n your Cruiser! Lol

I'm pretty sure as long as you've got a "grill" for your teeth or some sort of protection for the mouth and a good set of goggles, doing no more than 60 MPH on the Freeway, you'll be safe. Not that you'd be doing 60 MPH in a stock F or 2F powered 40, seeing as my 60 barely hits 55 with the stock gearing, 32s and 2F. :hillbilly:

P.S. I think we need a bug filled grin for those of us who love windscreen down driving in 40 series trucks. :grinpimp:

I've run mine up to 120 kph / 75 mph with the screen down & no problems. As long as your hood latches work it's not likely to go anywhere because the air can flow through underneath the screen. I do recommend that you also keep gloves for the frosty nights & try to avoid driving screen down at dusk. Warning - once it's down you're not going to want to put it back up.
