So it's finally starting to get hot around here. Mid 80's today, mid-high 90's expected by the end of the week, so after work this eve I decided to get the little AC unit out and put in the bedroom window. I've had it for 2 or 3 years now, and if I were to guesstimate, I'd say its about 10 year old unit, and it got me wondering, does those things need any service at all. Filters need changing, or refrigerant charged, ever? Or are they simply a "use it til it dies" type item?

clean the filter thats most likely under the front cover and if you really want to make it work better (poss last longer) clean the condenser coil and make sure the fins are not all bent up .

Thanks.

The filter in the front needs to be taken out and cleaned as above. My wall units used to be taken outside and hosed out with a bit of antiseptic added as the condensor etc gets laden with dust [also gecko and tree frog s***].Also clean the fan. Hornets, wasps and other insects are attracted to the machine after it stops running and is still damp and warm. I don't think you have as many bugs over there but a good clean out keeps them healthy.
