Do these wind deflectors help ease the problems with the leaky (wind & water) problems with the factory sunroof?
Does anyone on these uses them?
What is you experience?
Do you recommend them? if so what is the best brand?

Thanks,

Antonio

you mean the ones over the moon/sun roof? If so, I don't think it makes a difference one way or the other.

I had one on my 94...never botherred with it.

My old one might be available. They wear your clearcoat and then the paint. I've got lines where mine rubbed the clearcoat/paint off.

I don't think they help with much of anything.

They don't do much to help. May help a little but not really. As Riley indicates (although I hate to agree with him) is that they do help rub off the finish. I took mine off after having the truck for about 6-12 mos.

They serve the purpose of letting everyone know you have a sunroof and make it louder in the truck with the sunroof open.

Took them off both my Land Cruiser and my wife's Maxima. If anything they will seal better without one as the rubber seals are not closing around the metal stays that hold the deflector on.

.... I'll take that as a compliment.....

My sunroof wind deflector was causing a water leak by distorting the sunroof gasket. You could have mine for free, but the garbage man took it.

Liked the look, bought one against advice of others here, used it for 7 months, trashed it.

I have one on my 94 and it seems to be OK. It is a Toyota one. It has been there for almost 200k now and it doesn't seem to be screwing up the paint. It is quieter than our 91 without. But our 91 is a lot noisier in a lot of ways. I also have the side window ones. At first I thought I'd hate them. But we have 3 large dogs and I use them to crack the windows all the time and they work great for that. And no I'm not cooking my dogs in the summer!

Along the same line of thinking, what's the best way to reduce the whistling from the windows? I'm hearing slight wind noise on top of the window/door seal area when the direction of the vehicle is just right. Just replace the seals or were there some sort of a TSB on this?

You could have a door alignment issue. A body shop would be able to adjust your doors or tweak your window frame if that was the issue.

The wind deflector is nice if you're a smoker, or have a smoker as a passenger. Winter, summer or light rain you could crack the sunroof a touch to change the air a little without getting the road wind and noise coming at you through the window. It also allows you to keep some of the cool or heat in even as the smoker smoked.

But I don't like the looks of the original.

I run the "stick on" wind deflector from performance products. Doesn't interfere with the sunroof seal so no leaks, and much less wind & noise when it's open. The Toyota ones do more harm than good, I've heard. Plus now I get this total bling catalog every month.
