Especially on a truck that size. I don't know if the running gear would be strong enough for these tyres but it would be fun trying.

I'm only planning for 35/10.5R16 Simex Centipedes with maybe the option of upgrading to 37s in the future. Altough the 37s will probably only come when I win lotto and fit portal axles to the rig as well.

mmmmm let me re -think about this .. mmmmm

:grinpimp: YES !! I need !

your worried about running GQ/cruiser stuff because of weight, then you think about portals... hmmm...

if it's a winch challenge/ outback challenge type truck, portals won't help much.

Yeah but they'd be fun. I was thinking along the lines of Volvos or Maxidrive bolt-ons rather than Mogs. If I did win Lotto and did this ( very unlikely as I don't buy tickets) it would be more aimed at rock crawling or Tuff Truck events rather than winch challenges.

I haven't really decided what style of comps I want to build this up for. I'm more into rock crawling than speed events. Even though Short Course and Tough Tracks would be cheaper initially (no winch to buy) these events don't really appeal to me personally. Winch Challenges I don't mind because of the wheelspin rule, a little bit more controlled. Being a full bodied rig and not having 37s it wouldn't be competitive for rock crawling. Maybe one day in the future it might be developed enough as a rig to step up to rock crawling but at the moment I'm leaning more towards a winch challenge rig. Who knows if I decide I like the Winch Challenges better than rock crawling I'll focus my efforts more to stepping up to the Outback Challenge level. The OBC appeals to me on a different level to the crawling but I think it would take more commitment from the team to be competitive at the OBC. In the same way as the OBC appeals to me the Malayasian Rainforest Challenge does too. But thats a whole other ball game to compete in the MRC or the OBC.

yeah i understand your predicament. i like different comps for different reasons.

the XRCC or whatever it's called in QLD is a good rock event for fullbodied rigs i've been told

I've been to a couple of XRCC rounds at LCMP to spectate and this is the sort of comp I like. I'll need to build the rig for 37s for this type of comp though.

The idea in the back of my mind to rock crawl it is the main reason for wanting to keep the rig light.

BeeBees Hilux is the type of rig I want to "imitate", an all-rounder that is great at every type of event.

Awesome ..

3RZ ( nice engine .. and is Toyota ! ) , hi lux axles ( nice clearance ) with 37" or 39" could be the better option !

yep thats one well sorted lux. he'd suck in winch challenges tho. :D

one reason they're so successful tho is they are have great team work.

but good choice for inspiration, that rig is well thought out

I think the biggest strong point is their teamwork. They both know exactly what the car can do and what it won't do and they both trust each others calls.

The Lux is BeeBee's DD too.

BeeBee quite often bolts on 35"s and competes in production/stock class. He drops the hydraulic suspension down to the prod class lift height and away he goes.

Oh yeah, been driving my mates '83 landy ute this week cos the work van is having surgury (so is my wallet!) and I can tell you the only good thing about that truck is the V8! It's the one with the twin carbs like you have. Be even better in your lightweight Diahatsu!

Lup:)

Thanks for the "Piglet Porn" (that just doesn't sound right:doh:)

My condolences on having to drive a Landy;);p. You're right the only good thing is the motor.

I noticed a pic of piglet in the latest 4wd monthly mag, some interesting stories this month.
I got burned with the dvd cover though, pissy plastic sleeve.

Yeah I saw that in the Magazine in the article about the Superior All Terrain Challenge. The Apprentice at work navvies for his brother in the comps and he did the All Terrain last year. It is a real car killer event.
