thanks john and Randy it is extremely satisfing for sure. still quite a bit of work to do but its like tha with all cruisers its just now this one is on the road. I need to take pics of alot of different things I have done recently. I have just been pressing so hard I have failed to brake out the camera. I out the stock toyota ebeleum fromt he stock steering wheel into my 78' steering wheel center peice. came out pretty cool.
anyway my next steps is to tighten every bolt on the cruiser. and hijack cruiser nerd this week end for the wiper switch...it still needs to be inspected ......

oh and I washed it when I got home. I should take new pictures:)

You could change your avatar to that first pic on post #557

And your garage has the same colors as your cruiser :D:cool:

Congrats Jason! I'll bet you can't get that grin off your face. You did an outstanding job and the LV looks great. Can't wait to be that far down the road with mine.

thanks guys it has been a lon long road for sure. I have a short list of things to do. I have tracked down parts
longer speedo cable
springs for hte brake and clucthc pedals
a fuse
cotterpins for the ierod ends
a lock washer for the steering box
and other goodies but have not had the time to get back out to the garage :( I have a day planned for Sunday to finish the wiring and get these items done.
I also need to get the tires I picked up from Fox onto my wheels. seems my old bfg mt's rub on the front of the rear fender on turns. I want to go tall and skinny anyway so the 285/75r16's (32.7x11.2) will get replaced with bfgwork truck AT's 32.5x10. but we'll see.
then the plan is to get it inspected and go :)

thanks Pat and everyone again
Jim C (cruisernerd) came over today for round 2 of man vs electricity. got a few things fixed. headlights and the right dash turn signal was hitting the left wiper motor. fixed that but we got started on the wipers and while the motors that were in there ran pretty much ok the plastic and rubber parts have seen better days. and our thought is I will be better off getting some new motors from toyota. so Jim took one of the motors and the switch back to his lab for some more head scratching trying to figure out if it should be switched on by grounding an already hot motor or by posering a grounded motor. that makes it sound easyier than it is Jim might be able to explain it better.
will get the heater wiring installed this week as well. so that will just leave the clean up of the wiring and the wiper switch to go. we took her for a spin around the block and after Jim left I drove down to my parents again to use my dad's wood working shop. I hooked up the speedo and saw my self doing 35 or so real sujective speedometer when it the increments ar 0 - 20 - 40 - 60 - 80 - 100. I can see I am going to be watching that pretty closely on the highway. "honest officer I was going somewhere between the 60 and the 80"
anyway I need to take it to the muffler shop for a reworked tail pipe. crazy how this is all coming together. there is no way I would ever do another one. not to this degree. I say that but I learned so much doing this one the next one would prollly not take as long but still...

ok while I have a wiper linkage assemble coming. ther eare still some odds and ends to do. I got a good chunk of time in this week end. I was able to back her out into the driveway and finally get the e-brake hooked up an dworking. i wired up the heater. 2 wires left on that that i need to call into vintage to double check and that will be buttoned up.
menat to go for another ride but the e brake took longer than I thought it would .
not to much more to do......

this thread is useless without pics!!!!

took the lv out of the garge today its easier to do work on the wiring in the day light.it is getting easier to start it up and move it around. prolly a combination of me getting used to the drive train and fixing little aspects of it to the engine seeing some regular use. all in all she runs pretty nicely much smoothier than the pumkin I mean than i had expected. she still idles alittle high around 800rpms but thats not a bad starting point.
so the previous pics were taken the day it cam eout of the garage. she has been washed since then I think the roof got like 10 shades lighter after that. took some shots of how I put the old school steering wheel cap into my 77' steering wheel.

a side story on the steering wheel. last fall I traded leaping spear a gift certificate for it. i could not use the gc. and he was going to throw away the wheel so we both made out ok. fast forward to me trying to wire the truck and running into some head scratching while tryin gto wire up the headlight switch. luckily I had electrician extrodianary Cruiser Nerd come ove rto wire it right. the first thing he diagnoised was the horn was grounding all the time so when i pulled the wheel off again we discovered that the entire ring on the wheel that the horn button contacts contact was covered in surface rust except for 3 small areas that were clean prolly from when it sat for a long period of time in its last life. anyway when I wired the horn some months ago I got lucky an the contacts were on those rust free spots and at some poin tafter the wheel got turned and presto horn is not grounded and well you get the idea.

ended up having to sand out the tail light sockets as well.

so I used a whole saw and took out about 3/8 of an inch out of the center of the steering wheel cap for the 77 wheel and 5200-ed in the old school cap. need to clean off a bit of the 5300 but I am pleae with how it looks. i have done and plan to do alot more of these little touches will take some shots as I think about them

just need to get the wipers installed and working and the lv will be on the road
