Last week, I went out to LA on a business trip. While I was there I decided to visit TLC and check out the ICON.

Yes.. It is that awesome.

In no way is it realistic for a modest budget but, the vehicle is true work of art.

Any way while there I decided to go with the wheel that they use on the ICON.

Apparently, though they are back order in the 17 in and all that is available is the 16 inch.

I am worried that the 16 inch will change the look but, it would make the tire options more variable.

2 Questions.
- Do you think that the look will vary enough to justify the wait on the 17s
- I am affraid that they will not fit regardless because both the 17 an 16 come x8 inches wide. The original wheels are 5 inches. What should I look out for here.

Thanks,

Jack

There is no offset on the rim.

No offset?
What size tire are you planning? I suspect you are going to get a wide variety of answers on this question because you are going against what would be considered as the norm for cruisers however let me throw this out there anyway. (I havent looked at your build so i am guessing only)

If you are looking to mix the newer/older FJ look then I vote to hold off for the 17's (if that is your wish)
As for the 8" that shouldnt be a problem except for the no offsett part. You are probably right but that doesnt seem to play out in my head this late in the night! LOL

EDIT - WOW i just looked up the ICON! I couldnt afford the valve stems on that thing. It is sweet. My vote stays with the 17's if that is the look you are going for and it is a nice look.

My personal opinion is the teflon finish on them sucks. They are prone to scuffs and these ain't cheap. If you plan on "endangering" them, I'd pass. Leave them on the Icon for jaunts to Starbucks when it's cold and your new M6 is no fun that morning.

I bought a pair of these and had a hell of a time with them; ultimately I ended up with the wrong centers- they would not fit over my Aisin locking hubs, but did have the correct bolt pattern and bolt spacing. Total waste of time. Just make sure you get the right ones if you must have them.

Hi Jack,

The term "offset," when referring to wheels, is the relationship of the wheel mounting surface to centerline of the wheel width. Here are 2 examples of 0 offset converted to backspacing.

8" wide wheel with 0 offset has 4" of backspacing.
10" wide wheel with 0 offset has 5" of backspacing.

IIRC, positive offset moves the wheel out from the vehicle, reducing the backspacing. Negative offset moves the wheel into the vehicle, increasing the backspacing.

TLC does not use the original Land Cruiser axle on the Icon. So, the wheels are matched to the axle.

The difference between the 16" and 17" should not be enough for most people to even notice. So, you could go with either one. I checked out your build thread, since you are running the stock axles the 0 offset could be a problem. If you use some wheel spacers, this would correct the backspacing. The recommended backspacing is 3.5". You could try to find longer wheel studs and use a 1/2" spacer since you are running a 31x10.50 tire. Also, because this will mainly be a daily driver with only minor off road use, you can try running them without a wheel spacer and see if the tires rub the frame when you turn.

As for the width, the 31x10.50 tires will fit just fine on the 8" wide wheel.

Your final option, would be to contact the wheel manufacturer and see if they do any special orders. After all, if you will have to wait for the 17" wheels, you might as well order exactly what you need for your Cruiser.

17x8

Well my rig is far from being on the road but they do fit. I had to hunt down lug nuts that would work, but in the end I like the look.

I do like the stock steel wheel look but I also really like the ICON look.

In advance of any "positive criticism" I'm more likely to run to Starbucks than Moab. I still like the overall look ;).

What size tire are you using?

How much clearance do the tie rod ends have?

And, how much frame clearance do you have with the wheels turned to the steering stops?

the wheels in the first pic wont fit, the lug pattern is wrong

ha ha right. i know its just a pic.

i hope you dont scratch them

They look awesome...very nice.

I just recently checked out the Icon web-site....holy s***, huh? I'm sure some LC purist types recoil but I think I was sportin' wood as I browsed the on-line brochure. I wouldn't mind visiting TLC myself to see one.
