So since a turbo diesel retrofit to a US spec 100 would be about 25 to 30k, I was thinking about other engines. Think about all the wrecked tundras and sequioas with the new 5.7 and 6 speed tranny. Does anyone know if this combo would fit in the 100? Also, could the axles (front diff with arb) and transfer case handle the 400ft lbs of torque or the 500ft lbs if you add the supercharger?

Thoughts on the conversion? Anybody already working on this?

Thanks,

uzj100

PS - I plan on keeping this 100 for sometime and an extra 151 hp and 80ft lbs of torque would be awesome.

im gunna say turbo it. or just buy the one slee's got for sale. If i could i would. the one he has for sale is probably the prettiest one ive by far ever seen.

let it be! Power is adequate for me. Use the time and $$ for something more fun and less aggravating... :)

Why? All the "dieselheads" on this forum don't want the 5.7 either. They're TD all the way! Got I'd luv to get into the URJ200 5.7 and race the dieselheads in their TD version. Down, on flat, or up hills, towing, dirt, rocks, every scenario........luv it! :D

Please show me a report that shows a new LC TD that can 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. Id' luv to read the article.

You won't find it! They are rating it in 0-100km :) I think a pumped up Turbo Diesel would take the 5.7 off the line. Obviously, you don't have a lot of hot rod diesel trucks in Arizona. The next time you are at a news stand check out Diesel Power Magazine. Toyota is very conservative in their boost and fueling in stock trim. I'm sure it could be tweeked fairly cheaply to be very quick. The problem is the torque and keeping the tranny and everything else in the driveline in one piece.

I will say that my 5.7 350TBI FJ60 was no match for a 2H with an AXT turbo fitted to it. Same sized truck. I had double the hp but his torque was at least double and probably more than mine. Mine even had a manual and he had an auto and he could still take me.

Come on...the TD ran almost as fast as the 4.7L. The 4.7 was a 8.5-8.9 O-60. The 5.7 is a 6.5 0-60. NO COMPARISON. BE REAL! :)

Pricing kicks off with the 202kW/410Nm petrol GXL at $69,990. Next up is the VX at $79,990 and the top-of-the-range LandCruiser is the Sahara, priced at $94,990. The premium for the 195kW/650Nm turbodiesel powerplant over the petrol V8 is $10,000 at all grades.

Look at the numbers! For HP the twin turbo diesel is almost the same but then look at the torque. The torque on the TTD is amazing! Although I think in Australia they still get the 4.7 instead of the 5.7 in the 200s. But those torque numbers are huge.

You are comparing numbers to the 4.7L. Calculate the kWH of the 5.7L and you'll drop your chin.

Be real....the 5.7L is 2 seconds quicker than than the 4.7L 0-60 alone. The TD is a tad slower than the 4.7L. Give it up! No comparison! Go find a cross ref for the 5.7L numbers. POW!

0-100kph is 10.5 seconds for the Turbo Diesel 200. So that is 0-~62. So yes your beloved 5.7 does do better :flipoff2: Excpet when it comes to passing fuel stations. I imagine Toyota is running a conservative boost. Increase the boost and you might be able to take the 5.7. I know, now you are going to say, "add a supercharger to the 5.7". My response would be, TRY TO!

Yes...you are comparing the 4.7L to the new TD and the new TD still was a tad slower to the 4.7L

Now, let's look at numbers between the 4.7L and 5.7L and TD. You're toast! :D
2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Specifications | New 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Specs, MPG, & Engine Performance at Automotive.com

TD...195kW/650Nm
4.7...202kW/420Nm
5.7...284kW/544Nm

Come on.....show me a 0-60 or 0-62 time on the TD. NOT CLOSE to the 5.7L!

TD...195kW/650Nm
4.7...202kW/420Nm
5.7...284kW/544Nm

By the way.....that's about 50% MORE horsepower while maintaining 80+% of the torque. No comparison.

8.2 TD 0-62 vs 6.5 5.7L 0.60

OK, so 0.62......

8.2 TD
6.8 5.7 (to 62 not 60)

http://www.motopia.co.uk/html/toyota_land_cruiser.html

Increase the boost and you might be able to take the 5.7.

Well, let's see it?????????? Where? I wanna see. ??????

 1.4 seconds slower for a DIESEL...that is detuned against a nicely tuned 5.7.

lets see the test up a hill
Or towing somethinig

lets see it?

WELLL????????????????

because 0-60 is what we in land cruisers are all about

Again, if the person in the Turbo diesel gets the jump (driver error...unless everytime we test or you want to race we go to the track and run the lights and count errors ) that second can quickly disappear to a tie race.

So "No comparison" is absolutely idiotic to state. Not to mention you can tune diesels for a ton of extra power.

BS!

The 4.7L hung with the TD in all aspects of testing. The nod overall was to the 4.7L.

If you think the 5.7L will not eat the TD's lunch in every arena then you need to go drive one here in the US. You have no clue the difference.

The 100 cannot come close to hanging with the 200 in EVERY scenario (0-60, uphill, towing).
The TD cannot either and in every scenario.

They're friggin' automatic transmissions. This isn't drag racing. Hit the gas the TD will get it's clock cleaned. Slap on a 5000 pound trailer and go fot it.

Idiotic? Be real! We're talking about 85% the torque but with 50% MORE HP. My God! Give it up!
