Will the 5.7 fit in a 100? (1 Viewer)

Oh...oh....geeeeeeze....the 4.5TD will blow the 5.7.....oh god....crap.....man, the TD will pound the 5.7 all over the place...wow, holy moly.....

WAIT! This just in:

The 4.5 TDV8 200-series does 0-62 in 10.5 seconds (0-100km/h)

Toyota 200 Series LandCruiser - drive.com.au

I can't wait for Waggoner5 to pass me up in my 5.7L model. Of course that'll be when I run out of gas! :D

7.0 sec...5.7L
10.5 sec...TD

Oh my god guys! Admit it! Those numbers aren't close and therefore they show the vast power differences. That TD couldn't catch that 5.7 if it tried! Once they've hit 62MPH and they're cranking, the 5.7L's HP will keep it pulling away. Good god folks!

Again...so now you are picking another magazine that posts a number and using it a fact. How many different 0-60 times are there?

Here's a link, they put a piggyback system on the diesel...or "chip" as you might say. 318Hp and .4 seconds. top speed...136mph. (performance increase with accessory device) per magazine.

You keep stating it will blow it away, yet all we have is a 0-60 time with 1.4 seconds stock difference. that is NOT blowing away. Any stating afterwards is just speculation.

The only thing we can conclusively say is thats it's 1.4 seconds faster to 62Mph.

Hopefully someone who has driven BOTH can comment rather then the other assumptions that keep flying by.

NOT FAIR! You're comparing a STOCK 5.7 to a modified TD? Bull! And it's still slower to 62! :D I'm sure it's slower to 100+ as well.

You want to talk mod? You better hope they don't make the 504HP SC for the 200. :D

:beer::beer:

Right...I got the whole modded thing. I was just showing a link with just a chip that brought performance up more.

Still...it's only 1.4 seconds quicker. FACT.

I"m not doubting it's quicker...we got that. You've stated it about 75 times in this post. We get it. But above that is all speculation. Is it faster to 100? possibly, probably...

Is it blowing it away? NO...and you can't comment on it saying it will blow the doors as you've never driven one, and we can't get anyone to actually comment on it who actually has driven both. You can't say it will blow it away up hills, towing, you name it. So stop with that.

You'll take it over the TD...great. thanks for the input...now stop smearing personal opinion about performance and something WE don't know.

I"m out until someone posts that has actually driven one and can directly compare rather than trying to logically argue with you constantly stating it goes from 0-60 faster. Thats not a great basis for argument....over...and over...and over again with the same 0-60 fact.

So does all this mean a 5.7 will fit in a 100 frame?

shaddup!

Will it fit? Insight anyone?

Not sure if it will fit or not. The 5.7 is quite a bit wider which will be the issue. After Thanksgiving I will look into it and give a definitive answer.

Oh and John, my 03 Dodge pickup with ONLY 305 oil burning hp just blew the doors off a 200:) Woops

Is this thread seriously about drag racing 100s? There's been exactly 0.0 straight answers to the question posted until the post above me. Fuhking rediculous. I'm sure it would fit, of course it's the age old answer of time and $. As far as mounts and stuff, wouldn't you guys think it would be somewhat close since the Tundra uses a 4.7 also? Probably a little fender trimming. I would also wonder if the xfer case and diffs would need to be switched over for strength. Custom driveshafts would likely be needed as I'm pretty sure the Tundra 6 speed is longer. Might as well throw the brakes on while you're at it, eh? Of course you could buy a 200 for probably close to the same price, but what's the fun in that?

It is important to understand that you are comparing peak numbers and not power across a wide rpm band. The diesel might have a very high peak but drops off fairly quickly. Acceleration is determined by the amount of power applied through the entire rpm band between shifts. Diesels usually peak very low and gassers usually have a wider range where they make higher power. Torque must be equal to horsepower at 5250 rpms. That will give you an idea of what the complete power curves would look like. You would have to do some calculus but I bet the gasser has a lot more area under the curve between the shift points which would determine acceleration.

I dont know, I was happy with the 4.7 power, but now my primary DD is a duramax with mods, so now the LC feels SLOOOO. Somebody needs to buy Christo's turbo'd 100, its a smokin' deal.

let it be! Power is adequate for me. Use the time and $$ for something more fun and less aggravating... :)

So since a turbo diesel retrofit to a US spec 100 would be about 25 to 30k, I was thinking about other engines. Think about all the wrecked tundras and sequioas with the new 5.7 and 6 speed tranny. Does anyone know if this combo would fit in the 100? Also, could the axles (front diff with arb) and transfer case handle the 400ft lbs of torque or the 500ft lbs if you add the supercharger?

Thoughts on the conversion? Anybody already working on this?

Thanks,

uzj100

PS - I plan on keeping this 100 for sometime and an extra 151 hp and 80ft lbs of torque would be awesome.
Lots of bench racing going on here...

Did ANYONE answer the fundamental question, "Does anyone know if this 5.7/6-speed combo would fit in the 100?"
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Much larger engines have been put in much smaller cars so of course it can be made to fit.

The 4.7 and 5.7 was used in the same models at the same time. The engine configuration and accessory layout is identical. I'm sure there would be some custom fabrication needed, the oil pan and possibly engine mounts come to mind. Maybe the steering linkage. I think from an electronics standpoint especially with the instrument cluster) it would be a lot easier to adapt the 5.7 to the A750F 5 speed trans instead of using the 6 speed.

The transfer case is on the opposite side which makes the front diff output shaft on the wrong side. The 200 Torsen center diff is really nice though. If you want the Torsen and the front coil suspension, it would probably just be easier to swap the 100 body onto the 200 frame complete with drivetrain. 😉

Wow, an over 17 year-old post brought to the top. I've been on and off forums since 2000 or so....and this is by far the oldest/most dead post I've seen resurrected. Ever.

And oh how life was different in November of 2008.....

no, but something about either the 5.7 being faster then the 4.5td or maybe the other way around. and somehow a vw v10 tdi got thrown in the mix so i think the only logical answer is something is better than something else

Saw this on the forum page and got excited. Saw it was a zombie post. Went to pg3 hoping for any kind of optimistic data. Very disappointed.

Shoot, they just sell whole 200s. Plus you get AC seats.

IDK man. I work in REI, it feels pretty damn similar to me at this point.
