Claimed the Slee skid plate (which is now bent into my xfer case....) and a rear drive shaft.....

You play, you pay.

IPOR skid plate or forget it.

I dont know. even IPOR 3/8" piece of mild steel is going to have a hard time if you drop 6000lbs on it
Not true Lance last year at CMCC had an 80 teetering just like Beno's at Paragon. No damage. Held up the weight no problem. After seeing that I was sold! Lance posted pictures before I believe.

IMHO shouldn't have happened. Should be able to handle that. If i did that with the IPOR skid i would give them a call.

I disagree CJ. The skid plate did it's job--protected my xfer case from destruction (which it would indeed have done had it not been there).

I don't think Slee says that the plate will survive 3 tons sitting on it, rocking back and forth, etc...nor would I expect it too. If I really wanted that kind of protection, I would fab something up myself to my own specifications.

That said, I will probably fab up something myself in lieu of the Slee or the IPOR...metal and my time is cheaper than shipping from VA.

Cheers.

I've been running the IPOR plate for years now and I only have good things to say about it. Sure it's got some scars, but the plate is intact.
I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to go on the rocks with their 80.

My only complaint is that it's a bitch to grease the front Slee dual cardan driveshaft. Specially the fitting in the center joint.

The drive is nice and you get to see Lance in action. His shop is full of some pretty good hard core 'Cruiser goodies.

Beno: Thanks for your posts. Your pics have inspired me to have my guy fab up plates with 3/8". I've mangled rear shafts on the 80 and 100. I've been lucky T-case wise. Kinda a fool for me not to have protection. More mods!

No use on skimping with plates. I split a tranny case in 1982 and have never forgotten the misery.

Ok. Id have to see it to believe. that is a long lever arm even for 3/8". At leaste the slee has attachment pont on the drivres side

At least the slee has attachment pont on the drivres side

Although not shown on their website photos, IPOR's plate has, at the TC end, a reinforing bar that attaches to the frame rail to take off some of the load when hit.

wrench and jacques speak truths. That is part of what sold me on it.

Beno, In the video it didn't look like you really hammered down....meaning slid off something and came down on it. Looked more like you skid up and onto the rock, and then off the other side. I think the slee should be able to hold up to that fine.

I've been high centered on my Slee skid and although not as dramatic a Benos experience, I was able to free myself with a little forward-reverse-forward-reverse action. My skid is still going strong and feel as if I've gotten my money's worth.

I do agree however, that if you spend three times the amount on a skid plate that it should provide a higher level of protection.

Now can we get back to the pics:flipoff2:

Since this thread was resurrected. Holy Cross Trail Colorado August 8th.

Several drive shaft dings, 2 doors both white, otherwise we did pretty well. The creek crossing is PITA as traction is a huge issue.

going down was a bit easier but it is still a big drop.

2 Headed Dragon and the Lost Trail

Uglibus is huge on 40" Swampers. The last obstacle looks really wicked in that rig. He leans pretty hard for a heavy wagon. this last obstacle is a driveshaft killer. I went to the right and Michael went to the left. I launched my front end pretty high. I think that is why he ended up so far to the left. I've gone left before but it is pretty tricky on the 35" tired rig to not total a drive shaft going that way. I bet dozen 80 drive shafts have died on that obstacle. Being a dummy, I think I've done 3.

Quality pics Eric. No easy trail and one that I would like to do in the future....

A few more from me to keep this up top. Again, from this weekend though from different angles.

Might not have hammer down, but having all four wheels in the air and resting on the skidplate is a lot to ask. For what he was doing a full belly plate is a good option. The skid plate's job is to to prevent the transfer case from being punctured or damaged. I am pretty sure it did that.

The IPOR plate is substantially bigger and heavier and it is a good option for people that are going to be subjecting their truck to that kind of abuse on every trail.

So before we condemn the skid plate lets ask Beno what is bent? The bracket (we have replacements), the skid plate or the cross member?

slee, you know i'm not bashing your products, i own many of them. All i'm saying, and again i appologize for turning this great pic thread to chat so romer please delete this crap if you want......

....is that a skid by protecting the tcase did do it's job, but you shouldn't have to replace it every time you use it. JMHO
