I was told later in the day that the steering was trashed, and both front and rear diffs were blown. I didn't look at it very close, I know that after we pulled him off that ledge it wouldn't move under it's own power.

I helped him diagnose the issues he had.

1. Broken tie rods up front.
2. Broken carrier in the rear (ring and pinion still turned)
3. Possible blown front diff (never tested)

All CVs appeared to be intact.

The story behind this was that he was on a ledge and tried to bump over when his tie rods failed. Then I guess the strain trashed the rear carrier.

The owner has it at a dealership in Birmingham and is heading back to Florida.

The interesting part was the owner told me his steering wheel was off after a trip he took prior. Seems to indicate that the damage to at least the tie rods was all there before and just not fully broken.

The hill he was on was not a difficult trail and a stock FJ had gone up it. The owner had a very nice rig, I hope it all works out for the best.

You should go over to upstate cruisers and check out my weekend fun....true, old school mountain expedition wheeling...awesome.
