Back to the op @Gippster so many ways to skin a cat not that I skin cats but it really your decision and money. If you really want to talk to someone about the cop motor I would talk to Cam about it . Or just bite the bullet and and go with a v8

Wait, who’s Cam?! I’ll talk to anyone, I’ve talked to all the shops in Colorado that work on Cruisers. They all have a slight variation in opinions, which I appreciate since I get to learn and figure out the common denominator.

A 2f is too weak for a fj60. Colorado has very strict emissions laws. It's unlikely you can hot rod a 2f in Colorado legally. A LS swap is also difficult. One of the many reasons I don't live in Colorado. It's the equivalent to living in California now.

El Paso hasn’t caught up to Californication of emissions. At least not yet but I fear it’s around the corner and I’m might have to give it up before I start if they do.

I thought you were in Colorado. Some counties in colorado are still emissions free. If your in Texas go for the LS swap. You will not regret it. If you had a fj40 it might be worth hot rodding the 2f. But you won't get enough power out of a hot rod 2f in a fj60. Plus LS parts are available in abundance at every parts store. They are easier to repair than a 2f as well.

Oh no, I’m in El Paso county, Colorado. So it still true :) I’m trying not to fall into the purist trap but I really want to keep it stock engine, which is why I asked but I have to be realistic now.

Oh ok. The LS will just make it more useful all around. You can tow trailers with ease, easily keep up with modern highway speeds, much easier to drive, and you have infinite performance upgrades if you want. You can call up proffitts and ask them how much a swap costs with a used motor. It will be 20 to 30k most likely for the shop to do it. Thats definitely a chunk but im guessing youll keep this rig a long time. Still cheaper than a new suv and will retain value since its a fj60 rather than lose value like a brand new suv.

The EROD LS exists too, for those suffering the californication laws

Yep we install them on almost every build. Passes all SMOG counties and even the dyno tested "Enhanced SMOG" areas (more strict)

Will run 100mph with ease; if you want..

Don’t even get me started on the scam that is aircare in colorado. I’m glad I’m rural Colorado and don’t have emissions.

Colorado that I grew up in and loved is gone. Makes me so mad and sad. It is california east.

We need to keep the rural counties strong.

Being that obd2 emissions have been around for 30 years, I see absolutely no reason for air care Colorado. They keep clamping down the rules harder thinking it will make denver smog free. Outlawing any ecu tune that isn't oem or 3 way fed cats? Really? That's going to magically clean the air? Maybe if they focused on forest management more and better public transportation than the cheesy light rail and city busses they would see some real results. But that requires effort and spending money.

Ridiculous. Pure money grab.

I remember when it was on the ballot for northern Colorado years ago. They put it because they said all of our emmisions were going down to Denver. The ballot somehow got passed because people didn’t understand it, then, the next day they were magically building on the actual land that they had bought to do it…ya think that wasn’t already scammed in?

Rant off …

Put a manual trans behind the erod and it’s extra hot roddy!

Cheers
I wonder what options would work for a manual behind an EROD in a 6x series rig.

Anything that will fit a gm bellhousing. H55, nv4500 etc.
I should've rephrased that as "work best" as far as gear ratios, strength, highway RPM
