Why does everyone want Rock Warrior wheels? (1 Viewer)

Why are RWs so desirable? Forged. There is no other wheel that can touch the strength and weight of the RW besides the Volk TE37. If you think used RWs are expensive, then take a look at a set of Volks 5x150 ($3600), and the TE37 doesn't come with anything other than 0 offset. So, the RW is basically the only forged wheel that will fit the LC other than going custom made. $1500 for a set isn't bad when you consider most forged wheels are going for at least $900+ a piece from BBS or Volk. Cheap to be frank. A forged 18" wheel is about 3-5lbs lighter than equivalent cast wheel.

For that money, Evo Corse makes a 17x8 +40 wheel, made in Italy (I don’t know where Rock Warriors are made), likely stronger, less common, and good looking. I think I’ve seen one set second hand. For me, keen on the specs but not the RW aesthetic, Rock Warriors can be an acceptable alternative but for over a grand it would be a no go. Awesome though when you can find a great deal!

Evo Corses is a heat treated cast wheel. Don't let the fancy name and made in Italy fool you. Sure they have some sweet wheels that are used on rally cars, but to be frank, I think the Corse Dakar wheel is a bit over-priced at $400/corner. For that price or a little bit more, I'd at least be expecting flow formed wheels instead of cast, which is a tad bit disappointing. Evo Corses are even close to RW on the scale of materials specs but are around the same price.

I just picked up some brand new TRD BBS PROs, but debating on whether I want these or RWs. Still forged. More tire size options. It would be kinda fun to be one of the few with the BBS pros on a 100 and I’m thinking of getting them powder coated bronze to make a 100 series “Heritage Edition”. Or... I might sell them and pick up some RWs instead...

The new TRD 18’s are gorgeous, they would look killer on a 100. I’d be cautious wheeling it though.
I went from 17’s to 18’s on my last one and I kinda regret it. There’s just sooo many tire options in 17”.

I looked into the zip lock bag of lugs, locks and sockets today and found the splined socket missing! I texted the seller, he found it and he’s popping it in the post tomorrow :)

He seemed like a real legend, I would have loved to shoot the sh*t for a while, or at least shake his hand. Shame that’s not a thing right now.

The TRD keyed lugs are cute but should I ditch them in favor of all 20 splined? They look like a potential problem to me.

Is anyone using the domed caps??

Haven’t installed them yet, but here they are mocked up. Also put this in one of the sticky threads as well. Photo edited so you can see them a bit better.

Yes they fit: Toyota TRD Wheel Hub Center Cap PTR20-34071
Don't mind the frozen in place Owl Expedition mud flaps. Quality, didn't freeze and break!

I had an extra set of splined lugs and didn't use the keyed lugs to mount my RW's. I don't live in a high theft area and I didn't want to risk a problem in the future getting a wheel off in a roadside situation plus the security socket adds one more piece to keep up with in the tool kit or rattle around in my glovebox. The splined socket/lugs should provide me enough security for my needs.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Since the kit includes 5 lugs and a socket that would give me a spare lug and an extra socket to keep in the vehicle.

I got my RW set for about free.fifty plus the cost of a 5th for matching spare. Did some bartering and traded some new AHC globes from a recently totalled LX for the wheels.

I've never once heard of a story of the RW breaking/cracking. I wheel mine pretty well for what it is and have never even thought of it. Also, as mentioned, the fake bead lock does a great job protecting the actual wheel. My rings are beat the hell up, the wheel itself is structurally perfect. Worth noting: if you're goin to run the rings, make sure you get rubber and not rigid valve stems. That should go for any wheel that's going off road, though. In the case of the RW rings, it's nearly impossible to get a tire deflator tool or even an air chuck on to the valve. PITA when everyone is waiting for you at the air-down point to start the trail.

Also worth noting, the extra track width from running the spacers has absolutely been beneficial on trails. I'd much rather run a spacer and enjoy their benefits than be concerned about any drawbacks. They're too outweighed.

What the point of how strong the RW wheel is if you need to run spacers? Thats your point of weakness.

It's a good wheel indeed, I ran them before. Some random thoughts:

1) Fake beadlock is kinda nice... more of a rock rash ring and can be removed and refinished easily.
2) Splined lugs suck on a trail vehicle. It's almost the same as having a locking lug nut. I would keep two splined sockets in the 100, in different spots.
3) Not exactly a "Factory" wheel. It is made by a company in Taiwan for TRD.
4) Weight is 24lb... which is the same the OE 16x8 wheels
5) 10mm difference in offset is welcomed as it keeps the scrub radius close to stock when using larger diameter tires.
6) 5 bolt holes on a 6 spoke wheels bothers the OCD folks. :p

😂
Earlier today I was looking at mine and thinking, damn, they couldn’t even clock the bolt circle to the spokes and the valve stem?? Which way will I install the center caps?!?! 😅

Source? Just curious as its stocked as a standard p/n in the Toyota database.

The PN: PTR45-3412 is an accessory part number. You can find it in your US Toyota Dealership database but it's not a standard part number and doesn't resemble one. The first 5 characters (PNC) would be digits instead.

I believe the wheels are made by Welcome - SuperAlloy Industrial Co., Ltd.

@GTV I don't have a clue where your location is... "Si'ahl"... I couldn't find it on google maps at all... how close are you to Utah, USA....? I know a guy that was selling 3 of them and he'd sell them individually. I can see if he's still got them if ya want one for a spare....?
I know it’s a bit late, does he still have extras?

Decided to go with Rock Warriors, but want to solve the front hub center cap issue before I do. Wanted to confirm, you're saying this Toyota TRD center cap WILL clear the front hub and work with the Rock Warriors, correct? Since your pic was of rear wheel, just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

Forgot to ask....you had to have the lip bored/machined on the RW right? (Like the video in this thread)....then the domed cap would fit?
