Why do new suspensions start at a 2" lift?

As the title states, why do almost all new suspension packages start at a 2" lift? Aside from the grocery getter kit from SOR, I don't really see any options for a roughly stock suspension, especially in Canada (getting anything shipped out of the US costs a fortune in taxes and duties). Is there no market? Or is the 2" lift better in every way?

I'm about to pull the trigger on a full Dobinsons kit, but I'm a bit concerned about how it will look with my 31x10.5 tires. I've done a ton of reading, and looking at MUD members photos of this set-up. Some look great, some look goofy. 🤷‍♂️ Thoughts?

I’d solve the problem with some 33”x 10.5 tires. That will round out the look.

Even on 33” tires they still look small sometimes with a 2” lift.

If your springs aren’t sagging, throw on some Dobinson IMS shocks and call it a day?
Well this is what I have now. They seem a bit flat to me. The reason I’m thinking of now is that I have a set of fully rebuilt axles out of my HJ60 donor truck that have less kilometres and the trussed front housing. I figure if I’m going to drop the whole suspension it’s probably not worth putting the old stuff back on.

I think @cruiseroutfit has been working this issue

I've been following Cruiser Outfitters and this endeavour. But again, the cost of duties and taxes is horrendous. Maybe re-arching the old is the way to go. I'll look into it.

Thanks for the replies.

I’ve re-arced tired springs and it didn’t work. They sag again pretty quickly.
I had 2” lift springs with 31” tires and it looked great. Not strange at all. Looks right.
I didn’t pay much attention to how it looked- didn’t matter to me- but it never even crossed my mind that it looked wrong.
It looked good.

Haha. That’s the problem. I’ve seen some that look great, and some look ridiculous. I’m not sure which one I’ll end up with!

Well I’ve been looking at a ton of pics of a 2” lift and 31” tires. For the most part, it looks ok. I think I’m going to pull the trigger on the Dobinsons kit. It’s probably the easiest/safest route. Thanks for the replies. I’ll post up pics here when finished.

Dobinsons medium lift with the smallest spring removed and 31x10.50 BFG KO2
Looks and drives perfectly for me. New springs really improved the ride. You will be very satisfied with the Dobi springs. I just ran 31's 'cause they were on the truck before the lift. I'll upgrade to 33" when these wear out

I’ve had Old Man Emu springs for 17 years (side note: on my second set of bushings) and a new set of front springs fairly recently (thanks bushings). 33x10.5x15 tires on 15x8 alloys. The tires look almost too big to me now; just in terms of gap at the fenders.

I still have my stock wheels and those 31x10.5x15’s look better to me now honestly. When I drove to SAS I was struggling on grades with 3.7’s (H55F too). Maybe I should just get some 31x10.5’s and try them out… gotta run it by the boss first. Thanks guys. Tires are easier and should be cheaper than re-gearing at least.

And I’ve had this thought in my head before… 2” lift springs… let’s put 4” larger than stock tires on. Good idea…. Err maybe not. Just my thoughts. I obviously did that so I’m not bashing anyone here. Just a funny thought.

Correct, we have full Japanese stock height kits in stock for the 40 and 6x Series, they've been working really well after sorting some kinks.

Hi Kurt, I can't seem to find a stock height kits for 6x on your cruiserteq.com website. Do you have a specific link or do we need to call or email you to work up an order?
