And what if your production date was "8/88"? Do both work?

Was a pulley modified?

It's the belt that goes around the AC compressor that is different. Apparently this correlates with different compressors used. Not sure what to tell you about "8/88 build". I suppose you would need to search for parts based on frame number or VIN.

2f engine vs 3fe. Different accessory layout.

If your in the market for belts I went to my local Toyota dealerships part department today actually. And got all 3 belts (2F with AC ) for 60 bucks Toyota belts I'll have them in 2-3 days

I was trying to figure out what was so different. Perhaps a better pulley, compressor, or wider belt... I guess it doesn't matter as long as my equipment is stock hence I can be sure I'm getting the right belts. Although if the compressor is improved in the following year, perhaps I should check it out.

Thanks!!!!

that year was the 3FE engine.

@ToyotaMatt thanks for the low down. I really don't want belts made in Bangladesh.

I always wondered why many Toyota parts websites did not include 1988 model option for the Land Cruisers. Could it be related to the fact that the '88 doesn't match up quite well (as we saw with the belts). parts.adamstoyota.com

They did indeed switch compressors!

I was going through this as I try to add AC to the 3FE I put in my 55:
