Why did you buy your land cruiser?

I know why I got mine. I'd be interested to hear from some of the owners who made the choice to buy an 80 series with over 100k on it - as opposed to an newer expedition/tahoe/etc with less mileage. I really like my land cruiser (95 - 106k on the clock) but I second guessed myself lately when I drove a 2000 tahoe that someone bought for similar money. I'm not switching - but did anyone else have similar thoughts? thanks.

Hey,

I got mine for the same reason (told a sales guy this rig was Africa-tough, and he replied, not Rhode Island tough, like the "competition" :grinpimp: ), as well as just having loved the flexibility of the beast. Finally, because the lay-down tailgate is great for, what else, TAILGATING!

Quality & durability.

What else can you buy that's 10+ yrs. old with an avg. of 150k miles on the clock and you can expect another 100k out if it?

I purchased my 1997 FZJ80 w/ 139K on its clock without hesitation. If I were looking to purchase a Tahoe I wouldnt touch one with less than 45K. I purchased mine because of my love for the toyota brand and even more so for its sub-brand the Land Cruiser.

Some bastard here told me to.

Thanks bastard.

First rig was becouse it had 8 seats, second becouse it takes a hit like a tank.

because everything else just sucks!!

1. Reliability (toyota)
2. Durability (Land Cruiser)
3. Capacity (wife and 2 kids)
4. Safety (wider stance then explorer etc)
5. Will become my monster play machine later (now)
6. Some many stories, for example - my uncle has a nice cadi norstar load and the engine just had to be replaced at 60K. They will cover it but WTF

Value, reliability/longevity, DIY repairability, size (both height and interior volume), reputation of LC name, and of course lots of knowledgeable support via this forum for common problems/upgrades!

;) The awesome fuel mileage!!!! ;)
