Why did you buy your land cruiser?

Because I could...:flipoff2:

Had a Cherokee and it was such a rattly piece of garbage.....

I wanted a expeditiopn rig that would travel down the freeway for endless hours in sybaritic comfort to keep the family from complaining, yet be able to go anywhere when the pavement ended.

Having visited Australia the year before, I realized that, once away from the cities, about every third private vehicle there is a Land Cruiser. The roads beat most other vehicles to death very quickly Down Under.

I wanted the Toyota build quality.

Got an LX, fixed it up and haven't looked back.

As close to an asset as a vehicle gets

I bought my '92 back in 2000 with 150k for $12,000 :frown: after my 6' lifted pathfinder burnt to the ground in my garage/house. My parents thought I was crazy to buy something with that many miles on it. I bought mine cause it is a LandBruiser! It can kick everything elses arse by far AND cause its a LEGEND! Yotas all the way. Plus I don't care how cool something is it's not cool if you can go a buy one with just money. It the love that counts:) PLUS I am different and would not drive something that everyone else has. If someone else has the exact same thing its not that cool in my book. Like they say Built not bought. Cruisers are not a dime a dozen like every other over produced piece of s*** of the roads these days. And I like running over other peoples cars, or getting into wrecks, totaling other peoples cars and not a putting a dent in mine:flipoff2:P.S.- Two totaled, three massive damages and not a thing done to the Bruiser yet!

all of the above.. and to add so I could drive one as my wife wont get out of the other one.... .. Now I have to put springs and tires on the new one so it rides decent.... BTW who else builds a 3/4 ton truck and markets it as an SUV.....

I also got tired of putting motors and transmissions in Chevys and Fords.... All I can say is if the domestic Mfg... dont get it together soon their stock will be worth less than junk bonds...

Balance

Toyotas have the perfect integration of off-road capability/reliability and on-road
driveability/comfort.

Reliability, mass, perfect size, quality build, fit/finish. It's funny my 93 was 9 years old w/~200k on it and all my friends thought it was new, they couldn't believe how well the interior was built, at 200k it still looked like new, not to mention it still drove like new, you would never say that about any other SUV.

because everything else just sucks!!

read my ROTW top of the 80 forum

It was that awesome stock subwoofer that made me just go wild.

Why

The reasons I purchased a 80 series Cruiser was because of Toyota Reliability, off road capability, and it's plain COOL...........

I have always had 4x4 trucks or SUVs since I was 16. When the 80 series came out with lockers it was the ultimate interms of quality and reliability. There was no other choice, I just HAD to have one.

What vehicle offers the same features simultaneously from factory?

- Quality/Fit and finish
- Comfort
- Excellent onroad manners
- Excellent offroad manners
- Factory diff-locks
- Proven record
- Excellent re-sale value

I'm less about the oogles/comments you get about owning a legend and more about getting value for my dollar. Seriously, what vehicle can you think of that offers this, apart from the G-wagen. I would still buy a cruiser.

CHeers all.

If you can compare it too todays choices , it still kicks ass and looks as good if not better than anything else on the road. Plus, you will see these on the road for 20 plus years more and when all other trucks are in the graveyard, people will still want a land cruiser. Look at the all the land cruiser lines , they all rock. You just have to suck it up (like me) every once in a while you will need servicing , just like any other truck or car. Just dont take them modified to a dealer unless they see them alot.

So I could hang out on MUD!

Actually, I was looking for something to replace my Scout as my DD and the only newer vehicle that compares to it in reliability, durability, and capabiliity, is a Landcruiser. Also, they're are a steal in the used car market. A $50K (new) vehicle that you can pick up used (110K) for around $10-$12K.

Why wouldn't I buy a Landcruiser?

I saw one and thought, "huh, I think I need it."

The reasons are many...

Because I wanted one!

Really, I have owned Toyota 4WD Pickups, 2 4Runners, and didn't really figure out the Land Cruiser thing until my family started outgrowing our 4Runner. If I only knew then what I know now, right?

Durability-All my Toyota 4WDs together don't equal the amount of problems I had in a 1 1/2 years of ownership of a new 84 Chevy Blazer. Needless to say, I went back to Toyota and won't own anything else. Toyota is the ONLY brand vehicle that I have been willing to buy used due to the quality of Toyota. My 97 CE has just turned over 81,000 miles and it is in near perfect shape.

Styling, I think that even though my 80 Series styling is well over a decade old, it is still a head turner and looks just as good today in 2006 as it did when it was brand new in 97. The styling is timeless.

Luxury, the interior is comfortable, roomy, and at least for me ergonomically correct. All the controls are within easy reach and are similar in layout to our Camry.

Design, after owning both solid axle and ifs Toyotas, solid axle is another feature I wanted in a full size SUV. Land Rovers are crap, and don't hold their value. On the other hand, a LC holds value, doesn't break down, and you can't beat them. It was easy to lift and modify and drives better than stock even after the mods.

Now, if only I could figure out a way to talk my wife into a 100 series when we replace her Camry. She says one gas hog in the family fleet is enough, but she sure likes using it to haul our kids and their friends around.

Ever since the 80 first came out I wanted one but could never afford one new. I wrote off my POS and was looking to buy a dual cab ute with solid axles, good clearance, 6cyl turbo diesel but nobody makes something like (in OZ). So I decided to get a 2nd hand 80 and chop it into a dual cab but have discovered the advantages of the wagon (fridge doesn't get left out in the rain). The dual cab conversion will have to wait.

To take me where my X5 can't!

Offroad baby:beer:

Speed, gas mileage, ease of parking. ;)

All of which combined cannot take away from how fun the truck is and how my wife and both agreed when the 91 came out it was the handsomest truck we ever saw.

Bought the 80 T/D after busting about 3 front diffs in my 100, that and I don't fit in the other alternatives to well here in Australia:)
