Why can't they make bumpers like this for LC

Apparently you can get Nutz with the diamond plate pattern engraved. Just FYI.

spatan, it's all good. Nobody wants you to go to another forum. You gotta admit this is some pretty funny S**T!
Oh Boy!! Who's up for a group buy?

Guys it was just a thought. A possible alternative to the products available. I should have said " particular " instead of pompous - my bad.

And re Ford frames - the frames on Ford Superdutys ( Which includes my Excursion ) are not thin or weak. Crawl under one and have a look. If someone hit's me hard enough to bend that bumper and my frame I will have been in a really bad accident and I hope no one get's injured.

These things don't have a GVWR of + 8,600# and tow 10,000# without a glitch for nothing. This truck will actually tow 11,000# cause I got it with 4.30 factory gears instead of 3.73's. And you can put your ' Mini " in the rear cargo area if it breaks down. Exageration but you can put 20 sheets of 4X8 plywood in the back with no problem, plus all your tools and luggage without having to worry about it gettting stolen or wet. :)

Again - just a thought. Some folks don't need " off - road " rock protection and sliders. Just good sturdy bumpers that are better than the plastic fantastic things that come on stock vehicles for safety and on road / work use.

Have a good day all.

And I hate " truck nuts " but cowbells are good. Let's you know when you are backing over the Civic that pulled up a foot behind you.

And yes it is all good humor. Thanks.

Can't get a photo to load - this is the front bumper I use. I can't stand all the wings, bars and damage multipliers.

http://www.ranchhand.com/search.php?year=2000&make=Ford&model=Excursion It's the " Legend " bull nose - third down on left.

And please note both products are " Legend " series bumpers. Not " Sport " or " Summitt " which are the the other " more economical " Ranch Hand products.

Again - everybody have a great day. Sorry for causing the trouble.

I do got a LC. Does having a Ford make me an outcast? What about our MB sedan - is that even worse? LOL

The frames i've seen on F250's and the 2500 Dodge are not that thin. Though I do agree there is definately a concern for frame damage.

I don't have that much experience with domestic truck frames, most of it has been repairs, welding steering boxes back on, etc. On the trail, they flex big time, like bed into the cab, doors wont open, type of flex. Yes, relatively thin/weak, when compared to poop pipe. Most fords that I have worked on have a corrugated crumple zone at the front of the frame, if bent, the recommended fix is replace the frame!

The one ranch hand equipped rig (dodge 3/4ton diesel) that I worked on was a "working rig". Had big time frame issues, steering box falling off, front cross member loose, etc. The front bumper was only held on by two bolts on each side, the rear had larger brackets, looked to have been use for significant towing and had come loose multiple times, so was welded to the frame. One of the tasks was to remove the bumpers, replace with stock, failed, the rear would have required extensive frame cutting/welding.

As far as being for show, they are definately not an off road type bumper, that doesn't mean that they are not a working bumper.

Agree, kinda. Most domestic truck frames are designed to be flexible, by bolting rigid bumpers on the ends and then working them, it causes big stresses at the ends of the frame.

Most off road bumpers are also rigid, but the 80 series frame is a different animal, fully welded box frame, designed not to flex. But still, most off road bumpers would bend the frame before significantly crumpling.

Agree that more choices are better, phone them, maybe they will make you one? My guess is; they are happy making quantity for the domestic market, wouldn't be interested in making a couple for the 80 series? Most domestic frames end close to the body, lends well to this type of design. The 80 series frame extends past the body, if a 6" hunk of poop pipe were installed, would stick out a foot, especially in the rear.

The ones that I have been under are relatively thin and flexible. Towing has little/nothing to do with it, the load is centered. Try flexing the rig and measure the frame flex, with a tire off of the ground, can you even open the doors? They are designed for different use than a cruiser.

In a "really bad accident" relatively soft bumpers are much less likely to cause injury to occupants. Bumpers/frames that crumple greatly reduce the impact force, chance of injury.

That crumple zone is gone on my truck. ICON - formally donahoe racing 4 1/2" hanger lift is installed in the front with a cross bar that you couldn't bend with a floor jack.

Like this but they used to be 4" diameter.

This is a reproduction of the original hanger kit. Wimpy compared to what DR used to make.

These are the shock mounts I use in front for dual 5100 Bilsteins.

Some follks don't think that you need to take care of a Ford Superduty. I do. Mine is in superior condition at 111K miles, remodeling work use and family camping.

I think the ones you have seen are abused " work " trucks. They are not all like that. Some folks take care of them just like a good Landcruiser.

They are not LC's, but they serve well.

And the obligatory sign "Silly boys, Trucks are for Girls", yet a dudes driving it.

And my all time favorite...

"Back off or get a face full of Cummings"

Seriously? Who does that?

Or, "I'd rather be Cummin than Strokin'" or vice versa, model dependent.

Either combination sounds like a solo event which is less than worthy of a braggadocios banner, and Ford should be "Smokin'" anyway, since that's all my 6.0L does well.
