Whose running silicone hoses? Like em or not? Looking for real world experiences and how long you've run them. What clamps are you using? Would you do it again?

Gates Green Stripe is the best. Better than silicone that doesn't bond to the pipes.

I use silicone hoses as smog pump hoses since they can take the temperature.

As vacuum lines, haven't replaced them for a LONG time... it was a tight fit on the Barb's so no clamps were used.

Not sure your going to find a definitive answer....lots of opinions on this subject. I also assume your talking about the smaller heater hoses against the firewall or the PHH. I would only run OEM for radiator hoses. I have run silicone w/ constant tension clamps for over 10 years on the heater hoses and PHH, really because back then people were saying silicone was better (especially for the PHH). Times have changed and now lots of positive thoughts for Gates green stripe, but personally I have had silicone PHH's on two rigs for quite a while. One is about 10yrs old and the other about 8. I just inspected both and they still look just fine. People say silicon weeps, etc, etc. and you will find opposing opinions for both types but based on my last decade, I wouldn't hesitate to run either. I would say that inspecting and going to new hoses as needed rather than worry about silicone vs. gates is the best way to prevent an issue. I only run OEM for radiator hoses and other primary hoses, but the heater hoses both under the rig and up against the firewall are either gates or silicone.

same as the above ... I dont have years of use but silicone for one of the heater hoses and also the phh all with the constant pressure clamps. works fine actually my PHH was still fine when I removed it ... but the OEM clamp on it had disentegrated.

I have some Green Stripe on my 40 that i installed in 2002. It's still perfect. No special clamps. Seriously, it is the stuff. Silicone is good for other things.

Who's.

Gates green stripe. There's even a 4-ply version that's a little hard to find, but it'll last forever. Last time I was able to get it from Carquest by the foot.

I had a full HPS silicon kit installed
The main radiator houses got deformed after a 2 months
I pulled it out and installed all OEM and Gats green stripe with constant torque Breeze clamps
NO PHH I replaced it with long bay pas with Gats green stripe

Be careful with that. Hoses will eventually disintegrate from the inside, shedding rubber and clogging stuff, such as your radiator, even if they still look great on the outside. I don't have any info on that particular make, but don't ever assume any hose is forever.

This kind of experience is what I was curious about.

out they go

I've been running silicon hoses for all heater lines and PHH for about five years without problems. I used the breeze constant tension clamps torqued to spec. I have never encountered any weeping, and I live in an area that can see 50*F daily temperature changes. At that time the silicon hoses were all the rage, and I had more disposable income. But if I had it to do again I would use the Gates green stripe and save my coin for other stuff.

OEM hoses are available, and Mackay Rubber makes aftermarket OEM-quality replacements for all 80 series radiator and other hoses. I don't see any issue using silicone radiator hoses but regardless of what sort of hose is used, they need to be regularly checked and replaced if there's any damage or signs of leaking/weeping/spitting due to age, heat, vibration. Using silicone hose does not dilute the need to do basic maintenance.

Silicon on main cooling and heater circuit (on my 1HDT Diesel) for 3+ years now, standard (decent quality) jubilee clips. last year I did the little turbo pipes under the timing belt cover etc too. see here

I did get a little weep start on the bottom hose return last year, but adding another clip on the hose stopped it.
