Who is running an RTT?

4 Yakima load bars and a cheap ATV ramp from Cabellas. Strong versatile and cheap :). Tepui Kuhunam. Might look into lower gutter mounts when I get around to removing the factory rack.

Wholly crap 3500+prb 500 for the mount? Thats some coin to put down for an rtt. For that price i'd rather see an interior access camper like the ursa minor has for the wrangler.
lolol you havent shopped RTT Im guessing 6500 for campteq (cut off your roof) 4500 for baroud 3700 maggiolina and all need racks 3500 for @gofastcampers and theres is hands down best built unit to date, they were not F^%$ing about when they made it.

Some of these racks setups are incredible. However, I spoke to my RTT manufacturer (Free Spirit in Bend Oregon) and they said there was no need for more than two crossbars. Can't speak of other RTT, but that's all I run and have had no issues.

Nope, haven’t seen a single one that requires more than 2 load bars.

Bottom of that says the vehicle specific ones will be FJ Cruiser and 4Runner. If there is an 80 series specific one I'd be allover it. Doubt it though, very small market.
yes yes they are making it now.

I have the @dogfishlake Bowfin rack on my 80 as well as a freakin' HUGE Mombasa RTT. The cool thing about the Bowfin rack is that I can remove the RTT and leave the two cross bars attached to it. No need to remove the rack. No need to fiddle with those RTT captive nuts and mounting bolts. When the RTT is not on my truck, I'm just missing two cross bars. No big deal. Rack is still completely functional. I installed a cheap electric hoist in my shop to lift the tent. Remove eight allen bolts holding cross bars to rack, back truck in shop, run two straps under tent, hook straps to hoist, lift tent and drive away. Tent stays suspended by the hoist. I use the cross bars (still attached to tent) to attach a couple of additional safety straps anchored into the ceiling trusses just in case the hoist decides to let go.

Doing it this way also makes re-installing the tent a snap. Back truck under suspended tent, lower tent, remove straps, install eight allen head bolts, go camping. The Bowfin rack has slots that allow some room for adjustment with the cross bars. This helps tremendously with doing my RTT the way I do mine. It's a great set-up IMO. I can install or remove the whole tent from my truck in less time than it takes to actually put up or take down the tent itself.

Still don't see anything land cruiser specific that would bolt up with no rack, unless I am mistaken. Looks like they are doing specific tents for the 5th gen 4runner and FJ Cruiser, but the only other option I am seeing is the universal mounts which require cross bars or a rack.

A few of the really big ones need 3 load bars. I've got a CVT Denali that is huge, and it is supposed to have 3. Kind of would like it somewhere other than on top, but that's where it goes for now. I went with Bowfin because of how low profile it was (about 1" of clearance into my garage with the tent on), ease of attachment and removal since I don't like leaving it on all the time, and to spread out the load, because that tent is heavy with my wife and 2 kids in it with me. They aren't cheap, but it is an outstanding product built by the type of business owner I want to support.

Congrats on a stellar setup!

For future reference here is Gamviti’s low profile towers, incredibly well built and mud member to boot.

6 of these and cross bars of your choice and you are set. Again, amazing quality and customer service, made in USA and mud member. Also almost as easy to take on and off. Just about as low as any other low profile rack setup too.

And their racks are bitching too! Fully customizable with every possible configuration.

Let's hope they are not not making it to bolt into the factory roof rack holes. (Which many weld closed when doing the factory roof rack delete)

I used these mounts with 7/8” uni strut cross bars

I have the 2200 I wanted a full rack for the support, if not I would definitely want 3 loadbars

It’s a heavy mofo and throwing my big 270# butt and the rest of my family it’s a lot of weight on roof, that would be a lot for two load bars

This is a prototype tent, looking to a fall general release. See Terrapod Adventure Studio on Facebook, and he's also got a thread here in the camping equipment forum, and is a vendor here now. Using Trail Tailor's gutter mounts, and a direct bolt on to the tent. No rack, no crossbars, and 4 mount points. It's 5.25" thick and just under 120 pounds. I removed my factory roof rack but kept the rub rails up there. Clearance to those rails is 1" and overall height is about 7" above the roof, easily fits in the garage. I just tested it at Cruise Moab with my wife, and it worked really well.
