Who has the best springs

Thinking of changing my factory springs out W/ 4" lift aftermarket ones. I've got confer shackles and add-a-leafs but the springs are stiff and don't articulate like I'd like.
I'm leaning toward Man-a-Fre's. Any sugestions?

4" springs should leave you with HFS, BDS, Alcan (custom), Downey, Skyjacker, Hell Creek and Rough Country. I may be forgetting some

I don't have any experience with any of these but I was planning on going HFS but may do a 2 1/2 OME with a shackle reversal to net 4".

I put on rough country and I hate them. They give a terriable ride and almost no travel in the rear. So am having to move my shackle hangers so that I can have some travel. So with this experiance I would NOT recommend rough country, wish I would of done Alcans I would have been worth $$$ in the long run.

TPI Smoky Mtn Kit

This is kind of timely, as I just put a TPI Smoky Mtn kit on last week. My Cruiser had some unidentified 2.5" springs ( with a shackle reversal ) on the front, with a 30* shackle ( stock ones ) angle. Basically not a bad setup. On the rear, now that was another story. Some PO had ( I'm thinking ) took a stock pack, and started adding leafs, then some long ass shackles ( at a 90* angle ), until somewhat level. My Cruiser has a Con-Fer rear seat, and aux fuel tank,( the guy I got it from told me he pulled a camping trailer), so that would explain the heavy duty rear suspension. I got the TPI suspension kit ( 2.5" F/ 4" R ) which comes with all greasable pins and shackles, etc. I like the idea of how they move the spring pin back a little, to center the rear wheel in the w/well. So far I've only got around 75-100 miles on it due to having to find another mini front d/shaft ( kit made my d/shaft a little to short, cost me a 12 pack for another ), and a longer frame to axle rubber breakline ( thanks Poser, got it today ). What I CAN tell you is it rides/drives a whole lot better than before ( old system had Duetch Pre Runner shocks, with new bushings all around ), can give more feedback after this weekend. I think I'm goin to like this system based on what I've seen so far. They don't seem to suffer from the " short spring " syndrom, and have good shackle angle new. Al

I have run Rancho 2 1/2 springs, MAF 2 1/2 springs, Skyjacker 4 inch and Alcan 4 inch. By far, the Alcans were the best. Most off the shelf springs are too soft in the rear and so flex too much with a full load, like on a 4 day trip. I would say it's worth a little extra to get the right springs the first time and avoid the re-work. Alcan was good to work with as well. I'll have a rear set of 4 inch Alcans for sale in a few months if anyone is interested and can wait until my 76 is completely torn down.

I have done a ton of research on 4” lift springs over the last few months. Here is my .02:

Alcan – Springs tailored to your rig. This is what they do and they do it well. I have only seen pics but they seem to have amazing flex.

CCOT HFS- Big spring pack. Slightly longer than stock for good shackle angle. Mil wraps on both ends. I have not read anything negative about these.

All other manufacturers pretty much fall in this category. Here the main complaint is not enough flex in the rear with poor shackle angle. I would say that Hellcreek, Skyjacker & BDS are at the top of the list and that Rough Country and Pinnacle are at the bottom.

Used- Find a good used set that already broken in…Score!!

OME & some of the parabolic springs are popular but I don’t know if they come in a 4” lift.

I just put the 4" MAF spring on my 40, havn't had a chance to take it out yet but sitting in the shop they are a lot softer than the 2.5" rough country that I had on there. If you just buy the springs there pretty cheap too ~125 ea

The SOR kit will give you a very firm ride and not much flex in the rear.

Hi All:

OME 40 Series springs only give about a 2 inch lift.

I have 'wheeled with three rigs equipped with the CCOT HFS 4 inch lift springs, and all the owners have been happy with their rigs.

Two of the rigs run 35s, the other 33s.

"Spotcruiser" is one of these owners; I'm proud to be one of his 'wheeling partners!

IMHO, OMEs will ride the best, but does not come in 4" and is probably the most expensive. I had some Rancho springs. They were terrible.. You need a kidney belt with the Rancho springs.

If I end up building a streetable FJ40, I'll do the OME 2" springs with 2" body lift again.

I noticed no one mentioned anything about marksoff springs.
Don't mean to HiJack but does anyone have these springs. I haven't heard much feedback in regards to these spring. I'm curious because this is the route I'm going, as soon as I get to it on my check list. LOL check list. we all know how long that is, right.....

I am also ready to pull the triger on a lift for my 77, it seems skyjacker is pretty good, i like the ome however just can't do like $1200 for that kit, also i like hfs, very pricey also, i did find the skyjacker online 4'' for $728 and free delivery. also the 2-1/2 for $707 with free delivery. offroad.com
