I know that most people on this board recommend the Vintage Air system, however I want to hear the good, bad and ugly about the CCOT system before I rule it out. Specifically...

1. Does it do a good job of cooling?
2. Can you direct a vent towards the driver and can the driver actually feel the cool air?
3. Reliability of the system?
4. Ease of installation?

Anything else you want to throw in would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

CCOT A/C

Hello, I ordered and paid a skilled mechanic friend to install CCOT A/C in a 1980 FJ40. Installation was not that difficult but there were a few glitches. CCOT customer service is not the best but if you stay after them they will respond. Ultimately the A/C unit installed well and blows cold. I have had several Vintage Air A/C units too. They work better especially since there are more vents. However they do not have the original style look like CCOT. So if you want original look go with the CCOT and have a less efficint unit. If look does not matter go with the Vintage Air. My opinion only.....

Thanks for your input...with the CCOT system, are you able to direct a vent in your direction and actually feel the cold air?

I find that I'm typically OK with AC's that can do this even if they're not the best at cooling the entire vehicle. 95% of the time I'm driving alone anyway.

Thanks again for your feedback.

John

This is not helping your thread but I have to tell this story.

I ran into this gentleman at an auto part store as I was walking out. I did not know who he was and asked if it had an A/C system installed and proceeded to introduce himself as the owner of Vintage air and gave me his card. It stuck me odd that he would be an auto part store buying hardware for something he was building for his son. You would think he have access to all kinds of hardware at his place...just saying. Anyhow, he complimented on my project( I think thats what you suppose to do when you are the owner and want to sell your product). Asked if I ever heard of his products I said my cruiser came with one form the P.O. and did not like the compressor's pulley belt size since it did not match the other end so I wanted to replace it with one from an fj60. He said whenever I was ready to take it down to his business so we could figure it out. I never made it out there. I removed the top and never looked back. I say give the owner a call and tell him what you want. You may get something going.
