41.5 (yikes! How did that happen?)
Married to an amazing woman who loves Landcruisers.
2 dogs that love to camp and ride in LCs.
Career law enforcement, hopefully not too many years left to go until I can play with LCs full time.
My folks always had LCs growing up; 60s, 80s, and pickups (currently they have a few 100s and a Taco).
I was too stupid to embrace LCs right out of the gate and drove all kinds of other 4WDs (Chevrolets, Fords, J**ps, Dodges, Land Rover, etc...) until I realized that Toyotas are by far the best.
My first Toyota was a '76 FJ40 that I drove as my DD for many years, like an idiot I sold it; 10/75 production...ahh.
The list goes: '76 FJ40 (sold), '02 TRD Taco (sold), '94 FZJ 80 (sold), 2000 UZJ 100 (sold), '97 LX450, '79 (01/79) FJ40, '79 (09/78) FJ40, '89 FJ62 (not running), '04 LX470, 03' Taco TRD. I almost forgot, a buddy of mine left his '66 FJ40 in my yard indefinitely (he had to move but can't part with his 40), it's name is Bob and it makes great yard art...

Kind of depressing reading all the posts from 2004. Everyone has so quickly aged 10 years.

38, 3 kids, married. IT Director at a global IT provider.

47, Sales in Real Estate Analytics - 2 girls who love my 92' cruiser but think the 97' is too tall ! and a girlfriend who wonders what the heck i'm doing surfing Mud at 530 am or wrenching in 95 degree heat.... but loves it when we go off-road and hiking....

-- 50, feels like 32 (I had no idea I was older than most everybody on here; I am surprised)
-- Single, 4 YO daughter and Lab. retriever (time to wrench is at a premium currently)
-- Biology degree, terrestrial field biologist
-- Used to be a bicycle mechanic. Taught me the function and value of well-made tools and equipment. I still ride.
-- I have lived in San Diego for a few decades.
-- Bought my 60 24 years ago; many remote Baja trips (ask me if you need trip suggestions). Bought my 80 a couple years ago...I was worried at the time that it was too fancy as a Mex expo rig.
-- I am willing to lead a family MUD trip to Baja in the fall to some secret spots if anybody is interested.

Holy thread revival is right...this thing sat for 9 years until yesterday.

Like Dan, 45, married, IT Director, 3 kids who love the land cruiser and know that if Jesus were driving around today, he'd be wearing sandals and driving a land cruiser. I belong in the mountains on the weekends but instead am sweating it out in Florida where the highest mountain is the on-ramp to the interstate. Envy all others who have elevation.

37. Work in the bar/festival industry. I have a wonderful should be wife and two stepsons. All three let me do whatever I want to the cruiser. My favorite places usually are in the desert.

1. how old are you? Family?
I am 34, married for three years, w/ a 2 yr old son (who LOVES the 80) and one(maybe 2) the way.

2. what do you do for a living?
I am a geologist by trade and currently work for the state of Ohio.

3. where do you live?
My family and I reside in Dayton, OH.

4. why do you drive an 80?
I drive the 80 because it is an icon and because it is a Toyota. I was raised in a Toyota house and have always driven them. Bought my 80 7 yrs ago and look forward to enjoying it with the family for years to come!

Some peeps have some cool jobs here(geologist, biologist, etc), wonder if the 80 is the 'shop truck' for field work?

31. Family physician in South Georgia. First Toyota was a 1998 Tacoma had for 10 years. Now married with 1yo girl and an 8 yo cocker spaniel. All girls but me. The LC is first car I really learned to wrench on. Wife gets annoyed with how much I love/read mud, but loves the dirt road drives with our little girl and our cocker.

32, Married for a year, no kids
Industrial Engineer + MBA, currently working in a semiconductor manufacturing company.
Born and raised just south of the border in Baja, Mexico.
I was a Jeep fan since I was 15 year old until I got to ride and drive a 80 off road last November due to my CJ was diagnosed with a broken tranny before that trip that ironically I organized; loved the way the 80 performed and also started to see a increased value on the reliability of these units, believe me, being stranded in the middle of Baja with a broken ride is not my idea of fun.
So I found a locked 80 on November last year for sale at LA, pulled the trigger, sold my CJ and Jeepster in a month, built up the 80, now I'm considering it for my daily driver.
I really like the that in the 80 world, things are more elaborated, thought out and that overkill is not so common as in the Jeep world, people really think twice before chopping, welding and modifying their 80's; being an engineer I like the technical analysis and planning most of the people here invest on.
I keep thinking I evolved into the Land Cruiser world, and I'm glad I did.

31, Married for the past 2 years. We live in Chester, NJ. I work in at an investment bank in NYC as an Executive Director in Operations. My first toy was a 1990 diesel dual cab hilux which I bought in 2001. I have now owned my 97 80 since February and the addiction is growing strong.

21, plumber. Chatham NJ...had 02 taco for my first truck then bought an Fj cruiser the bug bit me bad..needed a change got the 80 2yrs ago and traded in the fj for a frs..been toyota since I have been driving planning on keeping that way! Although I guess the frs is a subaru at heart...

Interesting thread. I need to go back and read the whole thing...

But, for me - 3 weeks shy of 50 years old. Mechanical engineer working at a world-class DOE neutron scattering research facility. Married - lots of kids.

Fell in love with 4WD Toyotas in 1979 when they came out with the mini-truck (plus a friend of mine down the street bought a brand-new FJ40 that year). I've owned and wheeled numerous min-trucks and 4Runners, but finally got an 80 as it seems to suit me at this point in life.

43 years old. Biomedical Science degree from Texas A&M...Whoop! Work in the biotech field in sales/marketing/research of chemotherapy. Loved LC's for a long time, but never had a place to keep one as a 3rd vehicle. Finally built a house with a 3rd garage and now I've had my FJ80 for 1.5 years and love the thing. I have an awesome wife and 2 kids. The kids love the LC, but the wife was neutral on it...but since I've got it nice and clean with a good AC, she'll ride in it without many complaints.
