Design engineer - respirators for fire fighters
Is there anything else besides a cruiser??? My girls made it till almost 3 before they rode in anything else. 80 for wife and my 60 is getting replaced by a lx

Age 50 years, Mechanical Engineer.

Bought the Cruiser because it looked to be the most reliable vehicle I could find. My daughter will be in college for the next six years so it made good sense to have no car payments and minimal maintenance costs.
My younger brother and his wife have owned 80's for years with virtually no problems, this greatly influenced my descision. Going to get another one as soon as I can. Yes, the next one will have lockers! Love this rig!!!!

33, misguided software manager.

bought the LX to replace a bimmer that was always broken  and a tacoma that was never broken :) ...sold the bmw, just put the tacoma up for sale...it's like selling a child. But I'm done owning multiple vehicles.

on weekends I use the LX to pull a 17' boat. it's nice not having spinning wheels pulling the boat out of the water. (lots of scum on the boat ramps)

occasionally I get grief for buying a car w/over 100k, they get the :flipoff2: as i tell them to get back in that Kia or Hyundai.

(infojunky...I should thank you for some of your designs...if you work for Scott)

Started off with VW's, cool. But I had to get somewhere. Went to Toyota, haven't looked back. The p/u got too small. I wanted a 60 b/c the 80's looked to yuppie. Until I found out how well they perform on and off road. Thanks to all of you on this forum. Now I need to just start expanding my collection to someday be like pimp.

I use it for long/extended/expedition type trips (paradisecruiser I would be interested in some of your trips)

38,

Financial Consultant - I value companies.

The 80 is my first SUV ever, I got it because I started remodeling/partial teardown of my house (first time as a general contractor and the LAST) and needed it to haul stuff and didn't want to buy a pickup. So far I hauled marble, landscape bricks, endless drywall (on Thule roof rack), pulled Bobcats on trailer, etc.....

I did buy it without telling the wife (hey, it's an investment) and it cost me a week on the couch. It was better than when I showed up with my first bike (Ducati ST4) when it cost me two weeks on the couch.

Once done with construction, I'll probably make some mods to the rig such as the OME suspension and such.

Also, one of the main reason I bought the 80 is because of this Forum. Any vehicle with such as strong following (shall I saw cult like) is got to be good and the wealth of info on the board will make the maintenance of the 80 even easier.

Super wife, whose idea it was to buy the FJ60 in 1987!
I love racquetball, fly fishing, cooking, and my 3 Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Bought the 80 for TOUGH comfort. My 60 was getting rough as a daily driver after my third back surgery - a herniated cervical disc, from racquetball no doubt. Bought it last October and had the first blood stain 2 weeks later when I took it deer hunting.

Always wanted a LandCruiser. I love the look and the "square" body style.
Almost married, all I have to do is pop the question. She's 9 years younger and, an Anesthesiologist. I'd be marrieng up!

40+, degreed geophysicist, then got side tracked into geophysical software and ended up with a cruiser shop. Whowouldhavethunk.

Bought first 80 in 1996 with 8k miles on it. Did care about lockers since I was never going to wheel it due to $'s paid for it. First mistake, 2nd mistake Manik push bar. Kinda sorted itself out from there.

Did a lot of fieldwork in 70 series pickups in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa. Unlike most of you guys here, they can keep those. Work in 40 degrees C with no AC and drive thousands of KM's on those leave springs and see how you feel about it.

40 in December, never married. BA in History/International Studies.Currently in sales. I have owned several Toyota pick-up and one Trekker, the predecessor of the 4runner. All have been well used. Never had a high dollar repair on them. Having always done my own maintenance and repair, I appreciate the reliability and rugged design. I have friends with various LandCruisers . One of them has a 91 LC with 180k. His biggest repair has been an alternator. I am currently looking for an 80 series to call my own and start a long term relationship. During my info search I went to all the LC/toyota sites, this one is the best by far, so I signed up and lurk for now. It is interesting to see the different walks of life with the same choice in vehicles for generally the same reasons.

Was going to get a Landcruiser, but didn't want to be associated the stereotypically snobbish folks that are overly hung-up on the LC name-plate, so I got an LX-450 :flipoff2:.

Electrical Engineer by education - Control Systems design engineer by trade (wallboard manufactuing plants).

Born in Bangladesh and arrived in Reno, NV back in '79. Career moved me to Chicago, IL back in '97. No kids, two dogs (Rotty and a mutt).

I wanted to buy an 80 back in '97 but couldn't quite afford it, so I bought a RR :whoops: They were giving those things away! It was a blast while it lasted, made some great friends and wheeled all over this country. I've always owned 4x4s since that's all we did when we were young in Reno. Rubicon was an hour away and Fordyce creek (Sierra Trek) trail was about 45 min.

So far, it's been an awesome 80 ownership. Life is so much better when you're on 35s! :flipoff2: Toy owners are good people.

21, not married but seriously attatched.
Degree in industrial maintenance and most of the way to degree #2 in industrial electricity.

I remember the first 80 I ever saw...I was 8 years old and I knew I would have one. As I got older I discovered older cruisers. When I was 15 my dad and I started serching for a 40 to put back together but everything we found had rust holes you could put your foot through and we weren't up for that. I finally settled for an 86 regular cab pickup. Finally, 3 more vehicles later I got my (first for now) cruiser. My dad drives the 100 in my sig. In a few years I want to pick up a 62 for trail duty.

Educated as a Manufacturing Engineer - IT junky for a large MN county in real life. I am preparing to set out on my own as an IT consultant as soon as the finances are in place.

Married to a wonderful woman (10 yrs) and have two wonderful boys (5yrs & 3yrs).

I have always owned a Toyota. However, due to a laps in good judgment, I Almost bought a J**P, but came to my senses when I began to question why I would ever consider something other than Toyota. After months of looking locally for a locked 80, I decided to look to EBay. Found a locked '97 80 in Chicago with no rust. I called the seller and made him an offer pending approval of my inspection. Everything looked good so I gave him the key to my '91 Toy. PU with 300K and a check and drove home one happy guy...

Used to be (and might soon be again) a Combat Engineer Officer in the Army. Sapper.

Now, I'm a Six Sigma BB (statistical geek and project manager) for a manufacturing company.

Single.

No kids, but I have a five y/o ass kicking and frisbee catching Belgian Malinois that has a larger vacabulary than most children in my neighborhood.

Decided on the 80 after getting into manufacturing theory. Figured if I was going to preach the TPS, I ought to put my money where my mouth is. Couldn't be happier with a vehicle.
