Sounds like a low power steering pump kind of, but it doesn't change when given any steering input. Thought it might have been the transfer case, but later realised the noise is present in park, neutral, or while driving. Pitch matches throttle input. I'm thinking a belt driven accessory of some sort, or even the fan cluth crossed my mind. Everything seems to operate properly. Anybody experienced a similar symptom?

Yep, quiet before, noisey after it's most likely muck ot on the belts. Will go away eventually but may want to hose them off avoiding spraying the alternator best you can.

just wonder if can be something so simple like slippery wet belt ?

Sounds more whiney and mechanical than belts. Its been a week since the water crossings.

Or remove the AC idler bearing just to see if it goes away

Or just the the idler and belt :)

removing the complete idler it's one  job .. you can do is and check .. know few guys running without it and no problems .

Thanks for this thread, I have the same exact whine!
