I've been chatting with Ben and we have things sorted out to resolve the noise source. I'll update once I have more info.

Shipping the unit back today.

I've never met Christo face to face, but have talked to him and emailed back/forth many times over the years, especially back in the lcool days. I have no issue with him, other than his South African origin and thus funny accent and phrases. I'm from oz and of course have absolutely no accent  and only speak the queen's english...

My chats so far going through the front office and with Ben have been nothing but pleasant and productive.

cheers,
george.

So, there was a problem with the double cardan end of the unit. Both Slee Offroad and the double cardan vendor stood behind the product and the issue. Repair and upgrades are done and the unit will be back in my hands tomorrow.

Shout out to Ben who kept me updated with the progress and repair details. Also the vendor provided plenty of details about the technology in this particular product. Always nice to see folk that are passionate to resolve problems and do it professionally.

Anyhow, all good and I can get back to owning a 4wd again :)

cheers,
george.

Can you share what the problem was; tolerances off, assembly or machining issue, defective components, ---??

^ there was an issue with the pin+bushing inside the ball/socket 'contraption' that is the heart of the double cardan. These are made in Japan components and this particular part afaik is provided as a 'unit/sub-assembly'. So, basically an internal defect from the factory. After discussions with Ben and also with Jim (@the driveline company), I have some insight into problem and the solution. Both spent considerable time explaining the internals of the 'contraption' and issues that have been seen in the past. Both parties identified the likely cause when I explained the sound and once torn down it confirmed their diagnosis.

cheers,
george.
