my wife has given me the green light to get a winch for the fj40. Are there reasons to get the power station models? i mean i could get a stand alone compressor for all the hype, couldnt I?

The goals for this mod are for vehicle retreival, yes. i plan to seriouos technical work off road. Nachese, Moab, others.

BUT...I have this idea to do a Christmas Card with the fj40 suspended from a tree with a nice little red bow on the top with me standing by...:)...with a sign, "Merry Christmas" Hey, I am completely serious about this. I am already planning how to do it without serious impact to the engine, gas tanks, etc.

I have a 80 A alternator in the wing for the battery mod, which will accompany the winch purchase.

horzontal or vertical wind on the cable rope?

i only get one shot at this. so i want to make it count.

what he said...
x3...for the FJ i like the styling and line speed.

On my 05 nismo frontier im running a tmaxx 10k lb winch which was inexpensive, low profile, and every bit as strong as a warn winch (actually a better motor too). So if your looking to save some money then tmaxx winches are a good choice.

take a video and post it on youtube...

yes, all of that.

i was thinking of a tree next to a river, and like in "the god's must be crazy" i'll drag it up out of the water and up a tree.

oh, this just gets better and better.

and my tax return just came in....new 35x12.50s on the way now.

I said Warn 8274-50 with synthetic rope...i use 1/0 main power cable and for the solenoid pack 2 ga... few pictures from yesterday...

What is the -50 ? or are all 8274 winches 8274-50? sorry if this is a stupid question. Chuck

I believe when the 8274 winch turned 50 years old, this designation was added (couple of years back if I recall correctly). Maybe this model is faster/bigger over the previous models?

agree with above.........8274-50

IIRC the -50 designation came out for the aniversary when they changed the motor to a larger more powerful motor. The old 8274 can be upgraded to 8274-50 specs...
