I’m looking to either rebuild myself or pay to have my TC rebuilt. Which rebuild kit do you guys recommend?

Thanks

Honestly I would just take it to the Land Cruiser Shop in Sandpoint. They've got a good rep. I just towed my buddy's 62 there for an engine swap (he's not mechanically inclined at all and his engine burned all the oil, ran dry and seized because he never checked it) and the guy (forgot his name cause I suck) seemed really knowlegable and definitely knew his Cruisers. You're gonna need a press for some parts of the rebuild, and unless you're looking for an excuse to get one (I want one lol), not having one will seriously complicate the rebuild.

Terrain Tamer.

Terrain Tamer, get it from Georg @Valley Hybrids. Find his youtube video on t-case rebuild, go step by step following the 84 body and chassis TF section, and call George if you run into an issue.

Kurt @cruiseroutfit and the team at Cruiser Outfiiters have NEVER steered me wrong. If they carry it, rest assured it is a quality kit. If they don't have a kit, they have the knowledge to create one.

Kits often don't contain Toyota parts. That being so, I'm not a fan of using kits. Never used them. I would take apart whatever I was working on, discover what replacement parts I needed, look up their Toyota part numbers on Toyora drawings online, make a list of part numbers, then order the parts from the cheapest Toyota online dealer.

When I bought a kit from Marlin Crawler 8 years ago, it had Koyo bearings but crappy aftermarket seals. Threw them away and went to Toyota to get good parts.

We would love to help. Our kits feature Koyo bearings (same as OE Toyota) as well as Japanese gaskets, idler shaft and NOK (same as OE Toyota) seals all at a very competitive price! Cruiser Outfitters 801-563-1277

I'm gonna go with you since you are next door, but how does yours compare to the Trail Tamer stuff?

Terrain Tamer by chance?

Bearings and seals are the same (both OE), I'm not sure what TT is doing for gaskets and the idler shaft but it can't be better, just par imo. TT predominately reboxes and assembles kits from existing manufactures, so they are not exactly making most of their branded parts. In the case of knuckle kits, its Japanese bearings and seals with India made gasket and shim kits. Good stuff but not Japanese such as our kits. FWIW.
