Hello, I have read through many threads about the topic of tire size and still have a couple specific questions. I have the medium 1.5" OME kit on the way for my 2006Lx and will be replacing the worn out street tires at the same time with BFG A/T K02. Im trying to decide between two sizes 275/65r18 (32") or 275/70r18 (33"). This vehicle will primarily be used on road trips, but will see some use on forrest service roads and mild trails like Alpine loop. My main question is how the drive-ability is affected in relation to these two sizes. I have a tendency to lean towards the smaller size as it seems it would be the least detrimental in regards to mpg and handling, but Im concerned it will just look bad/too small with a mild lift. Would love feedback from those who have chosen one of these sizes, how has it affected drive-ability? How does it look? would you choose differently if you did it over? Thanks for any reply's!

If anything, I'd get a wider tire than stock and not worry so much with 32v33", just for the better offset look.

I've had stock size, 265/70/18's, and 285/75/16's Ko2 on my LX..... all seem to handle about the same. Since you have a 2006, loss of power would be less of a concern for me. Since you plan to offroad it, I'd go with taller aspect ratio to give more room to air down.

What wheels are you running? stock? Keep in mind the wheel offset will also play into how the rig looks. I went with 33x12.50's on my 2001 LX and never looked back, handle nice, great offroad and don't rub at all. Just my 2 cents, Cheers!

If you are largely highway stay at 275 or 285. Any wider will be bothersome and reduce MPG. a 275/70r18 is a great size but keep in mind that you will likely end up with a load range E tire that will have a tad stiffer ride. Lots of factors at play.

IMHO anything smaller than 33s looks too small

33. I would say keep an on the width if you are wheeling and not running spacers. 275/70 r 18 is great common size with lots of choices.

I went with 305/65/17's. Not quite a 33 but pretty close coming in at 32.8. The width isn't as wide as 12.5 but still doesn't look like a skinny tire on LX. I think it came out pretty good. I'll swap once these wear and I'm ready to re-gear for 35's with lockers.

285/65/18 (32.8 x 11.2) is the optimal size over 275/70/18 (33.2x10.8) to me. The 275 leaves desire for a slightly wider tire. The price of the more common 275 will typically sway people that way though. I wonder what affects MPG More? .4'' taller or wider? I personally am interested/ debating getting the new BFG KM3 but the only comparable size is a 33x12.5/18.... which is actually only a 32.5 tall tire./

Rotational mass does not help either on the MPG's.

My last tires that were already installed are an uncommon size (285/70 R 18 - 33.7 x 11.2) and I will try to be more mainstream next time. I like the taller and skinnier look.

I keep coming back to 295/70 R 18 now (34.3 x 11.6)

285/65/18 is a GREAT size for 100s.

Thanks for the replys so far some great looking rigs and sound advice. I will be using factory wheels. This is how it looks right now.

Anyone have any negative experience switching to the 275/70r18?

I'm running 275/70R18 (33.17) Kumho Road Venture AT51 and I LOVE them. I do lots of interstate driving and feel like my rig has plenty of gusto. If you tow a lot, you'll lose some umph, but it's still acceptable

Bfg ko2 makes a load rating d 285/60/18. Im considering them for my 2006 but they weigh 54 lbs a pop (no puns) if i recall.

@DuckLN we have these on my wife’s Gx. It’s a great tire size because it’s wider, but just slightly taller than stock.

Just in regards to fitment...
I have 285/65R18’s on stock land cruiser 18s with Slee wheel spacers and zero lift.

None for me. Been on 275/70/18 KO2 since August 2017 and have put over 43k on them. Not a single issue to speak of. Well, the speedo will be off by decent margin. 70 indicated is 75mph actual for instance.

Thats what i was thinking too. Nitto and toyo make a tire in the same size but theirs is an xl rated whereas the ko2 is d. The nitto is about 4 lbs lighter which i like but im rockin michelins for another month or so.

Just remember every tire manufacture sizes vary. BFG run smaller and wider where Toyo/Nitto run larger and narrower.

I run 285/70/18 Nitto Ridge on LC and 285/75/17 on LX.

Go with the 275/70/18 on non lifted truck....

Does this throw off the factory navagation system? Is there any way to correct the speedometer?
Thanks
