Which kind of welding rod is best in which situation?

I have a basic Lincoln AC 225 Buzz Box or tombstone type welder, still kind of figuring stuff out with it.

You only need two types: 6011 & 7018AC. Use 6011 on rusty or dirty metal or poor fit up. Use a whipping motion. Use 7018 for all other situations. 7018AC is specifically made for low open circuit voltage buzz boxes.

You mention battery welding in another thread, what kinds of rod do you take on the trail?

6011 1/8 inch for thick pieces and high current and 3/32 for thinner stuff and lower current.
