Which impact driver do you use?

This is all really great input. I'll likely buy just 1 and it will be for occasional use on the truck.

What's the value of having one on the trail?

I still have muscle in my arms and can do all this manually, but heard somewhere that impacts are safer on the bolts as they tend to strip and round...I'm new to my 80 so I could be off in this point.

On the trail? ABSO-F-ING-LUTELY!
After a trip where buddy pulled out his Snap-On impact (he's a mechanic and so can justify the spendy tool) and whizzed off the lugs and other otherwise tedious bolts during a trail fix of a broken axle shaft, I went home and threw mine in my trail kit. It came in handy during my own axle removal. So it, a spare batt (at a minimum for every trail run) and the charger (it stays in the camp tools/spares box) go with me every time.

I am a Makita man myself. Picked up a Brushless driver to go with my old brushed unit when we started building our pole barn. I also have a client who has the cordless metal cutting skill saw and swears by it. After all this talk, I may have to pick up one of these 3/8" impacts that everyone keeps talking about. I have a 1/2" that I have been pleased with, but it is kind of cumbersome to carry around.

That's the beauty of a truck...You don't have to carry it around, the truck does it for you. :grinpimp:

I'm also heavily invested in Makita LXT cordless tools, I bought my first impact driver in 2006 and I've used the heck out of mine and it just keeps going. I may be wrong but I believe it is the only driver on the market that has a delay timer on the light that keeps it on for ~10 seconds after you release the trigger. Sounds trivial but it is very handy and I wouldn't buy anything else now.

I also have the cordless metal circular saw and it is awesome. Cuts plate steel like it's been machined.

I really want a bigger impact so I can ditch the noisy air gun and the PITA hoses. Are you guys saying the 3/8" model does the job for lug nuts?

I use a Bosch 18v 1/4" hex for nearly everything - 125ft/lbs in a very small package , really handy tool . I need to pick up the 36v version to go along with that monster 36v hammer drill/driver I have - it's a wrist breaker for sure . Bosch's batteries have been excellent , on par or better than Makita from what I've seen .

5130 IR 3/8 cordless
2115 timax IR
2135 timax IR

makita 18v for everything else and I've used my makita impact driver to pull a ton of bolts on the 80 I'd love a 3/8 makita impact too but hard to justify when I have a 3/8 IR cordless

I have been eyeing the Milwaukee 2763 for a while. I use my shop's now and then and it will remove anything. anything. curious about pneumatics, could a PUMA power a pneumatic for removing lug nuts?

Im another makita guy...the new brushless range is like chalk and cheese compared to the old brushed units.

I gotta DTD145 impact driver (updated lxdt01) and a 1/2 drive DTW281 impact wrench (xwt02)...
a great pair of tools that compliment my bad mofo drill, the DHP481 (xpho7).

The right angle attachment pictured is the single greatest invention ever :),it makes light work of any task.

The smaller impact wrench is grunty for its size and I havnt found anything it will struggle with..
When makita pension off the old BTW450,and release a big brushless 1/2 drive impact wrench ill get one too, just incase I get a few real stubborn bolts :P.

I'm curious where you got that right-angle attachment. I've tried a few of those (other brands) that I found on the rack at Lowes, but they are not up to impact use, I end up stripping the gears out of them.

The other Makita I have that has saved my butt a few times is the BDA350 right-angle drill.

Milwaukee make an attachment thats identical apart from colour, propably made in the same factory :)
