Bought the whole kit from cruiser outfitters last summer, which came with the IPF buckets, IPF bulbs, and new harness.

Today one of the 80/110 bulbs went out, it's a dual filament so my low beam died but my high beam still works.

I'd like to get some nice bulbs, but I'm torn between going to autozone and picking up some H4's (the quick fix) or getting them online...Its disappointing the IPF's didn't last more than a year.

For those of you running H4 bulbs, which do you use? And am I better off staying away from autozone?

Since I have the upgraded harness I can accommodate a bulb with a higher whattage, looking to get something equal to or brighter than the IPF 80/100s

I have been using the Osram 85/80. I like them a lot. ~$25 each.

In general, higher watts = shorter life. More watts = more heat is why.

For all my driving stuff with light I buy the most expensive light bulbs because they give an awesome amount of light: Philips X-treme Vision +130%
Especially the reflective paint on road signs is visible far easier.
When aging eye sight drastically decreases so that is also a reason for me.

Used Hella for decades, seem to work just fine, but the quality on Hella bulbs can vary.

I run mostly 80/100 the lows if adjusted don't bother others.

I'm running 55w hella bulbs for $4 a piece on amazon. I'd imagine the higher wattage pieces aren't much more expensive. I've been happy with hella bulbs and I've used Osram, Sylvania, Optilux and Hoen.

More wattage = more heat, as another poster pointed out. Just because you have an upgraded harness does not necessarily mean your housings can safely shed the extra heat. Do you know what they are rated at? Every piece of the system needs to accommodate the extra draw of the lamps. Also, have you tested the voltage at the back of the lamp under load? Brightness loss is exponentially proportional to voltage drop. Even half a volt less than rated = visible dimming.

80/100W w new headlight harness. eBay.
A bulb burned out after 5 years.

Get spares, no biggie.

I read the link provided by hj 60. I'm intrigued. The "better" sylvania and osram bulbs are only $25 per pair on amazon. Lower wattage than the osram bulbs I've been running. Man o man I wish there was an objective source who tested this stuff.

I've had a very good experience with Osram Nightbreakers. They are regular-wattage bulbs (55-60) so no excess heat to reduce lifespan.

osrams from Daniel Stern lighting. I wanna say they are just a tad 'hot' like 60/65? I have them in my Cibies and they rock

check out daniel stern lighting....he's mostly objective.

I'm running the below and they burn out every 12 months. Does that surprise anyone? Seems like a lot to me.
