Keep the rims from the blue....

definitely hold the Mustard....too.

I'd let the blue go as well. You just can't go wrong with a '78 mustard.

OT... would you mind showing a pick of how the top is suspended from the garage ceiling. I've often thought of doing this using my roof carrier's as the mount point. Also, how do you get it up there?

Keep the mustard.. You already started on it.. Send the blue one this way.

Are you serious? We're taking patio furniture vs a Land Cruiser for crying out loud.

One can never have a car too fast, too hot a chick, too much money or enough Cruisers. A more materialistic person than I once said the key to sucess is getting more stuff while not having to get rid of anything in exchange.

Now if she wanted a new car or an addition to the house or family, then that might be something different.

I think I would find a way to add some new furniture without getting rid of anything. Depends on what you are looking for but HD & Lowes will give you something like 6 months same as cash for signing up for their credit card. Get her the stuff and worry about it in 6 months.

the top is just held up to the rafters with 4 bike hooks and 4 motorcycle tie downs, was easy i took it off by myself yesterday. as for the space, its not an issue but i use my shop for work at home, i buy/sell/repair/modify cummins diesels, runners and later model cruisers so i use the shop everyday. plus it is expensive enough building 1 40!!!! as for the wife pics ill see if i have any, she is skinny and pretty and is an engineer so i can sit here on a thurs AM and play around on MUD, might be as rare as a rust free 40 LOL:D i tried the "honey ill build one for you nad one form me thing-------UMMM..... didnt work. she wants another LX450 or later model 80 series for her 100mi./day commute, sissy:rolleyes:

From your original post, it sounds like you want to keep the 78... and for the reasons others have listed above, that sounds like the way to go

In 4-5 months it will be to cool to grill and eat outside! Keep them both.

One vote for the '78.

Mustard gets my vote.

I like them both....I would keep them both. The 79 will fetch alot more money at the end if decide can get the bugs out of it. I bet if you clean the orfices on the carb and mark sure your exhaust/intake is not leaking it will run like a top. all that is left is figuring out why it over heats.

The 79 has the gas tank on the outside and hold more gas. You have the option of installing factory ps. However, if you are going install 35's or a taller tire the factory set up is definetely out of the picture.

got her running and staying cool today (without a thermostat and fresh coolant flush) the fuse that says heater also controls the gas and temp guage, it was bad, put a new one in and everything worked fine until it popped the fuse again. looked underther and one side of the fuse was really HOT, the little prongs it popps in on one side are kinda commong out of the fuse box? maybe i should get a new box. but that is the issue.

California makes the choice easy for us, pre 76 doesn't have to be smogged, 76 and later have to meet smog standards FOREVER! $60 every other year for inspections. No putting on a Weber or changing any smog stuff, unless you want to swap it back before the inspection...not that anyone would do that...

:crybaby:

"one has to go this week" Where is it going? Can't you just put it at a buddy's house and buy the patio furniture? Problem solved, both parties happy. A few months down the road you can say it's time for another Cruiser project and start 'looking' for another Cruiser like the one you never should have sold a few months earlier...

How much will either be 'going' for?

you can keep one at my house!!!

Man that sucks. These problems are kinda hard to work on. disconnect the heater and see what happens. You can remove the plate that lets you have access to the fuel sending unit located near the rear heater and clean the contacts. I doubt the problem would be here but I would clean it anyway since it's new to you and that way you know it's making good contact to the sending unit. Also you may check the rear heater motor. The tend hold dirt and moisture over the years and slowly stop working all together. You can also disconnect the battery and clean the contacts on the fuse box. There is also a ground tereminal there that may need some cleaning make sure it's making good contact. Another notorious problem and has nothing to do with this problem you are having now is the rear the tail lights assy. tend to rust over time and will stop working.

Motoloco,
I like RumBum's strategy...... BJ/FJ's are hard to come by where I live.
Mine was shipped by SEA across South China Sea.

Last resort, will keep the BLUE.

Man what I would do to have to fj40's. Well I say keep the one you feel the most from let them choose you. I like the yello personally. I lean towards the round grill instead of the sqaure. Hope for the best and get to keep them both. by the cinder blocks work great for patio furniture. Problem solved.
